Saddle fit for YOU. How much room do you like in your saddle? I am trying to decide if I need to stay in a 14" or pump down to a 13.5". Right now I have about 2.5" infront of me in the seat at the most narrow point. What is your preference? I look at run pictures and I feel like maybe I am moving aorund in the seat too much and I have too much room to move around.

I like lots of room! I cannot stand being " Locked in" with a high back and front. Just me.

I have Zena Warrior Princess thighs, so I ride a bigger seat than my "seat" needs. I don't like to be locked in either. Many of the new high cantle and high pommel saddles tend to pop me out.

I like to have a little extra room but not a ton. I listened to a podcast a while ago that said if you sit in the saddle with your arms straight down and then bend you elbow to 90 degrees your hand should be right at the horn as if you were going to grab it. I didn't know if I believed it or not but my saddle that is a 14 and I prefer to ride in, that worked perfectly. My 13.5 showed to be a little short when doing that and it is a tad small and I don't really run in it as it is easier for me to get pitched forward. Same brand and type of saddle just different seat sizes.

I think it's whatever you are comfortable in. I have two Iriginal Costs saddles that will last me the rest of my life, but I got older. Now, I compete in an old school Josey and trail ride or tune in the Coats. Both saddles have a wide seat that's I need due to my height. Most girls want a narrow ground seat like the Masters.

I like a little more room in my thigh area because I got some ex-gymnast thighs, but it makes up for because they are short too, LOL!!! ;-)  For me, after I hurt my back about 12 years ago it became more about the twist , I need something with the more narrow twist. Anything that rocks me back on my butt tends to fire up my back.

I can fit in a 13" but no way is it comfortable LOL
I can ride in a 14" but I ride a little more forward so I can't sit back.

So I own and ride in 15" saddles

For me it's less about the seat size and more about where it places my leg.  My personal opinion is most people ride a seat size that is too small and wonder why their legs get behind them or they get popped up, thrown forward, or lose stirrups.  I want my leg to hang just in front of my hip naturally and at rest.  When I stand up I want my leg to stay there, under my hip, and not move back behind my hip.  It's all about balance and center of gravity.  I like a saddle to have some ground seat and a nice pocket to sit in.  When ground seat is added, it will make the saddle sit smaller.

What Herbie said 100%!!

Too small of a seat and your top half will inevitably go forward and your feet will go back. I rode in a 14" for years but it wasn't working for me the last few and esp on one horse's turning style. It was so frustrating!! Went up to a 15" and boom problem literally solved.

I have several 15 inch saddles and they were throwing me forward. Had the opportunity to to buy a new saddle and my trainer recommended a16 inch. Perfect fit. I have list 30 pounds and still going to ride the 16 inch. Your weight in your stirrups is what keeps your balance not being squished in your seat.

I ride in a 13.5in bob Marshall. I never feel trapped. I don't like to have a lot of room.
