| My boyfriend and I have a debate going - Which grain is better and why?
I feed Triple Crown Complete and he feeds Total Equine. We are looking to just buy one or the other as we have to go to two different feed stores (niether store carries both). Both of our horses are active and relative in age & size. I barrel race (of course) and he team ropes.
Which one do you think is better and why? |

Corn was one of my arguments!
I thought that ingredients had to be listed in order by highest to lowest amount. I dont know if that is true for animal products, but corn is (or was) the second ingredient in total equine. |

It surely is. That's why you'll see corn, oats, barley and molasses as the primary ingredients in sweet feed.
I feed Triple Crown Complete and I love it. The feed is consistent and the horses look and FEEL great on it. No hot heads, but no dead heads either. Plenty of good energy. |

Yes..ingredients in horse feeds are listed in order by highest to lowest amount.
I know some people find corn fine as I use to feed corn all the time years ago. The corn of today is not the corn of years ago. |

We have been feeding Total Equine for a while now. My 7 yr-old seems to be losing weight, losing top line and I don't think his hair looks as good as it should. I have been thinking about changing feed but the stores close to me don't offer much selection. They do have Triple Crown Senior. Would this be a good choice for a 7 yr old that is competing once or twice a week? |

TC Senior is for just about any horse. I fed it to my herd for about 2 years before we tried a locally milled option, which failed miserably, so we went back to TC, but decided on the Complete instead.
The Complete is a little higher in starch, but a whole lot less than most feeds. It's still a low value, around 20%. The Senior is around 12% NSC. It is high fat, high fiber, and low starch. The normal horse should do fine on 6lbs. A harder keeper may need up to 10lbs. It will put and keep weight on a horse very easily.
I feed the Complete, just bc I don't have any horses with any metabolic or gastro issues, so I'm ok with the little higher starch. Which I'm sure comes from the oats in the Complete. The Senior does not have oats. And neither feed has generic ingredients or corn of any sort.
A serious competitor could benefit from the Complete since it is a higher energy feed, being higher in both fat and starch. An ulcer prone horse would benefit from the Senior, being it's very low starch content.
I am feeding a 3 year old, a 12 year old, and a 6 year old. They all thrived on the Senior and are thriving on the Complete. |

Absolutely..
I have fed both Complete and Sr.. I prefer sr but that is because the complete has oats as hlynn said and is more of a sweet texture.. my horses did better with soft pellets and has beet pulp base. I fed it to 4 to 23 yr old. fed between 4 to 6 lbs and kept healthy and fat with pasture and good hay.

Location: Paradise , tx | I feed the TC complete and Sr, my horses seem to feel better and run and play more that ever. My 10 year old mare has lots of energy compared to when I got her, but not hot or crazy energy, just seems to really feel good. |
