Wellllll.  People have asked this before.  I can't tell you what to do. The only thing I would caution you on is letting your mares go to someone who won't take care of them.  Some people bite off more than they can chew.  We have heard it over and over.  Me? I wouldn't lease any horse to anyone. I am very certain the only way I can make sure horses I care about are taken care of is if I keep them.  People who get something for free a lot of times don't value them.

I've been offered free leases on nice mares before.  I only did it once. I'll never do it again.  I take the responsibility seriously.  I don't want to have to make the call that something happened to someones "baby" while I was taking care of it.  If I want a mare, I'll buy it.  That way it's mine if something happens.

If choose to lease them, have a contract and don't forget an exit strategy.  What if one party wants out before the term of the contract is up. Who pays what to whom?  What if the mare is in foal and they aren't feeding her or she dies of the 546451561 things a horse can die from? It might be through no fault of the person leasing them. Or it may be neglect. It can turn out very badly.

Personally I would be SUPER interested in leasing one of those mares.

But, I'm in Georgia.

I don't really want to sell them.  But my husband is going to retire this year and I am not sure about our budget.  So I thought if I leased a few out then I would be able to figure out the new budget easier

I've leased a few broodmares, just a feed lease, and it's always been successful. I carry mortality insurance on them for my own peace of mine and it's always nice to be able to send them home when i get the babies I want. Nice mares!

I am skeptical and would be terrified to lease a horse out, especially for about a year.  I would be really crazy with vet references, pictures of facilities and fencing.. random visits. LOL.
