Location: GA | Thank you for asking about Nick.He is at home for the time being. He will soon have to go back to Sheperds Spinal Clinic in Atl..He still has no movement from the chest down.He does, however, have sensation to touch in his legs. Most of his wounds are healing up nicely. He still has a pretty bad one on his right leg and left arm.He has had 6 surgeries on that arm so far.He can move his right arm,but can't grasp very well with his hand yet.My Mom and I went to see him the other day at his house and he wanted a cake.My Mom got that duty since she is a far better cook than I am..lol.She took it to him the next day.Since he can't hold a fork/spoon very well, his Mom has been feeding him.I suggested he eat his cake with his hands and he done good.A few crumbs in the bed but not too bad. He has a video phone set up at his house and his doctors and wound care nurses can see him when they are talking to him.His home nurse and caregivers can get specific instructions by the doctors as they evaluate his wounds or medical needs. It is the coolest thing.I wish I had that for my horse..lol.It sure would beat the phone calls and e-mailed pics to all the vets.of Bull's foot. Nick's spirits are pretty good.He went in his wheelchair to see his horses. That seemed to have done him alot of good.He also was able to go to the local saddle club to a fun show.Of course he got lots of attention. He tired out pretty fast though and his Mom took him home. He has along road ahead of him,but he is working hard.Again,Thank you for asking.I will tell him. |

Location: GA | Bull is doing some better. He had several really good days lately where he was hardly lame at all.But the last 3-4 days,he is getting a little more lame.Prob. another abcess.Thats what he is acting like anyways. We have had to take off all the dead hoof(except about 2"on the inside heel) starting at the coronet band and going down about 2-3".You could see all the tissue and alot of the coffin bone. Now,most of the tissue and coffin is covered with new laminia. Some hoof growth is starting to grow down.It will be a year prob. before his foot grows out. Most vets are very interested in his case and several are keeping up with his progress via email pics and info. There aren't many who have even come close to making it this far. Most horses have been put down long before now. They are amazed that he is doing so good.It is really wild to see his foot.I just keep it bandaged with 4x4 pads, silvadine and vet wrap. They really don't know what to tell me,we are pretty much on our own.My vet here keeps me in antibiotic, bute(haven't had to give any for quite some time) and gastro guard,as needed. We kinda just go day to day.He is bright and happy, putting on a little more weight and hair coat is improving.EPM seems to be under control also.I hand walk him some on pretty days.I'm not supposed to walk him much, but he loves it so much I take him out for a little while and let him graze and sun. When he starts dragging me around, wanting to go farther,I usually end up taking him back in...lol..I know I could still lose him,but I really feel like he is going to come on through all this.He is totally amazing. He wants to be a pasture horse now. That would make us both very happy.
