This horse has been vet checked, chiro'd, treated for ulcers, and saddle fits good.
I have tried working him out of the arena and then standing him by the gate. I have tried almost everything I can think of with this horse. He is just a nervous mess at a show. Once I get him in the gate he runs an awesome pattern, but it's just getting him in there. He rears and spins away from the gate. He does not get run at home, I don't even have barrels set up. I run him at the most 2 runs every other weekend.
I am wanting to try a calming supplement to help with his nerves. I was thinking Keep Cool by Silver Lining Herbs or FOCUS equine. Has anyone had luck with either of these? Or do you use a different one that you swear by?

I'm a sales rep for Silver Lining Herbs and can honestly say that the Keep Cool has been one of my biggest sellers. Customers have given me postive feedback about this product and they are ordering more! It's easy to feed and cost effective. It sounds like you are doing everything possible to keep your horse quiet. The only other thing you might try is to take your horse to a jackpot and do nothing but exhibitions at a trot or slow lope. I would do three back to back exibitions, come out of the arena, make a circle and go back in, do your pattern, come out, make a circle and go back in. All at a controlled trot or slow lope. If he still has not settled you might do it again. The Keep Cool will help take some edge off and help him to relax. You can PM me for more info. Thanks!

Cellarator has proven results for under stress. Also reduces ulcers by 60%. Have 15 yrs research to back it up. They make a maintenance product and a turbo paste to be given 2 hours before you run. I have the testing, if you want to pm your email.

Vit B1 or Tryptophan work well as a daily supplement. For an event calmer use Cool-as-Ice by Pureform. Good results and dosen't take the run out of them.

Rebecca Leigh - 2009-06-03 8:21 AM I have had good luck with Vitamin B1.
I am feeding that to my calmer horse now and in two months I have yet to notice a difference. He was a psycho mess at Sunday's horse show.
I have a much more nervous horse that also doesn't do gates, and several years ago we tried all kinds of calming supplements to no avail. We fed an herbal supplement, tried calm & cool paste, and the list went on. I don't think there is an answer for my horse's nerves.....he just has stage fright and I try to have him warmed up early so he can relax near the gate for several runners. That seems to help, though nothing is 100 percent effective with him.
That said, I believe every supplement affects each horse in a different way. What works great on one might not do anything for another. It's a lot of trial and error, in my opinion. Good luck.

THE GastroPlus with Tyrosine works great as a pre-race dose. Bob now has it available in a 6 pack for $30.00. You can put it in some grain or dose without any fasting invloved..
