I am cross-posting this by request. (I noticed it while doing my daily search of lost/found dog websites - still looking for Hawkeye.)

"Anyone on here from the Wilson or Witoka Minnesota area? This morning my boyfriend was traveling with 20 sled dogs he had picked up from Montana that were coming to work with us in Northern, NH for the winter. He stopped at the rest stop on Interstate 90 Eastbound, 35 miles out of LaCrosse Wisconsin, to let the dogs stretch (attached by drop chains to the truck) and Godzilla broke through his clip and escaped. Looking back only once, he panicked and ran to the highway and never returned. They called and called and waited nearly all day. The dog never returned.

He is an unneutered male, Alaskan Husky, maybe 4-5 yrs old, light tan on his legs and face and grey on his back and tail. He's wearing a blue collar with a fleece lining and it says "Godzilla" on it. He may have a tag that says Iditarod on it.

We are heartbroken for the dog and his owners. I've contacted every vet and rescue in the Witoka County and LaCrosse area as well as the sheriff dispatch, Lacrosse Tribune, Winona Daily News and the Winona Radio. Any other thoughts? Does anyone on here know that area?

It is one thing to lose your own dog, that is horrid enough, but this was a dog that was entrusted to our care for the winter, this is ... very sad.

Sounds like there was a possible sighting tonight around Lewiston, MN and the dog (if it is him) hasn't gone *too* far.

Please send lots of "stay safe" and "stay close" vibes to this dog who is known as "Godzilla"!

Anyone in this area who can/wants to help, or can cross-post this info anywhere you can think of?

He's been sighted three times now on opposite sides of the highway. this morning in Dexter and then one mile east of the Enterprise rest Area running along the road ...

no one will go pick him up. county dispatch sends me to state and the state sends me back to county.

Could you pass the word that he's there, very close and if anyone will pick him up there's a reward and then tracy of teh LaCrea Humane Soc. will come get him and hold him for me??

He has crossed the highway at least twice now. He's obviously searching for his family now that he's got his wits about him again. Right now the woman from the La Crea humane society is there and a second person, the one who was going to use horses has gone out to look. Please please cross fingers for a good outcome.

Godzilla was found and rescued, is receiving vet care but from what I can gather is expected to be OK!

Thanks for everyone's cross-posting and prayers!

Now, if we can just figure out where Hawkeye is! Coming up on one year soon. I still think about him and search online every day.

Woohoo!! So happy that he was rescued safe and sound.

You are are such a good person for taking time out of your day looking for Hawkeye, I think about him a lot and am just baffled that he just disappeared. to you and that one day Hawkeye will reappear!

Thanks for your comments! Those of us still looking for Hawkeye, although it is not an active search at this point, well, the little guy just really touched my heart and I can't forget him. I have learned the ins and outs of the found dog websites (at least the ones I know of) and it generally takes me only 5-10 minutes a day to check them out. I have a pretty good memory for detail and sometimes will notice a found dog that I just know was posted as a lost dog on some other site awhile back. My batting average isn't great, but I think about once a month I've been able to match up a dog with it's owner and it is just wonderful to hear about the reunions! The best story was the time my niece posted on Facebook that she found a dog on Robert Street in West St. Paul, in fact had been sold the dog by a stranger whom she got the sense that the $20 he wanted for the dog was going to go to buy crack or something. The guy said he'd found the dog several days before near the high school. Just think if he'd sold the dog to someone else. My niece's friend brought the dog home, my niece posted photos, and I'd recalled seeing a lost dog post from that area. However, without the photos, I don't think I would have made the connection. I wish more people would post photos!! Within ten minutes, my niece was on the phone to the owner, who verified with photos of her own that it was indeed her dog that had been stolen out of her yard the day before! I guess the reunion was just awesome - the dog was just beside itself with joy. Anyway, some day I do hope that the dog I notice posted on a found ad will be Hawkeye.

Hawkeye is a male blue merle Australian shepherd, who slipped his collar on 11/26/2008 while being walked in Afton MN during transport from Brainerd MN to his new home in Texas. He was sighted many times in Afton, Hudson, Stillwater and surrounding areas, but no reports of new sightings since February 2009 (Stillwater). It is unknown if he found his way to a farm home and was taken in, or is still out there on his own. I refuse to think much about the possible alternative outcomes. If he survived around the St. Croix River through the worst of the winter (and we know he did) he could still be living there and perhaps will be sighted again once the river freezes this winter.

Update on Godzilla: He was reunited with his sled dog buddies a few days after his ordeal. He was reportedly beside himself with joy. I can't even imagine what must have been going through his mind - being so lost, being chased and caught, being at a strange vet hospital, being taken by plane to a strange place, and then - miracle of miracles - being reunited with his dog team - well, there is no way a dog could make any logical sense of that! It sounds like he's going to be just fine once his soreness goes away.
