I have a gelding that I am considering selling. He is registered, ran on the track and has his tattoo, but the breeder wont give me the papers for him. His sire is Jess Louisiana Blue and he is out of a stakes winning daughter of Special Leader! We just had 30 days put on him with the barrel racing trainer and he flexes, bends, and does everything you ask of him. I want to price him for what I think he is worth, but I know I'm going to get those people that will low ball me and try to get him lower because I don't have his papers. Any advice? What would you pay for a grade horse, but you know his background??

Why won't they give you the papers?  If he has a tatoo and with young ones having all been DNA'd I would call the AQHA and see what they say.  They tend to frown on people withholding papers.

A grade horse with 30 days would be a tough sell at $1,000.  I'd keep him and put more time into him...or...get the papers!

I would pay good money for a grade (gelding) not mare but gelding! They can't breed anyways or be bred.
I've seen a few horses in some sales registered with American Half Quarter Horse Association that have went for over $4k.
You can register them as long as you know at least the sire and or dam. I'd check into it! There's a CS Flashlight yearling for $6500 on here reg. with AHQHA out of a grade mare.
