My barrel horse just got diagnosed with navicular disease. She has one big cyst in the navicular bone and three early cyst. Her navicular bone is pretty much solid with very little marrow. I got told to not run her anymore but I know a lot of people that have navicular problems that still compete with there horse that has even worse navicular disease than mine does. I got told not to inject or cut the nerve because of her running and chance of tendon injury. I understand that part completely. I am lost of what to do. I do not want to retire her but am confused on what to do. Is there any treatment that I can do to keep her running or not? Any opinions are needed. Thanks

Try EquiBone by TLC-  give them a call and see if it would help with your symptoms.   I had an MRI done and mine had a hole the size of a pencil eraser, did EB for 7 months and he has been sound for over 2 yrs.  I stopped the EB because I had to feed it only with beet pulp and he started not wanting to eat the beet pulp.   in all fairness I haven't run him because I got another horse to run and didn't have time for 2.  the other horse had to be put down in May and I trail rode most of the summer  on the navicular one and plan on running him next year and hope he stays sound.  I wish I could afford another MRI to see if it acutally did close the hole.

How do you know the navicular has little marrow?

Little marrow tells me compromised blood flow/production.

I would be asking if the cysts are calcified, if not tildren may be able to initiate the body to reabsorb, I had success with non calcified bone spur on the pastern being re absorbed with tildren.

Tildren is also the new go to drug for delaying the navicular syndrome, so I would discuss this with my vet as well.

I got told equibone won't help at all with her. And the vet was able to tell there was not alot of marrow from the xray from the density of the born.

When the vet showed me what they looked like on the bone it was more like indentations than anything.
Thank you guys for all the help. She is a horse that wants to run and has the heart for it and I can't see her retiring at the age of 17 but dont want her in pain.
I dont know alot about navicular just the stuff I have been told and just trying to find ways to help her and keep her doing what she wants to be doing.

She is one of those horses that likes to run and she likes her job of running. She has the heart and will keep going and not refuse to do it. I can't see retiring her because she is the horse that needs a job.

I don't know who told you Equibone won't help but it is a miracle product. I've seen it almost cure a horse of it. It's incredibly crazy good.
