Location: Oklahoma | I found a lady last night that was kind enough to let me try one of her Caldwells on my gelding that I've been having a heck of a time fitting.... and it fit! I would love to be able to buy a brand new one (or even a lightly used one),but I just don't have the extra money for it. Especially when it's a horse I'm not even sure I'll get back to running. But I probably wouldn't sell the saddle, either.
So how do I go about finding them? I couldn't find any on ebay and the one that's here on BHW is a seat size too big. Do I just diligently stalk BHW ads, or would Charon maybe know of some? I'm looking for a ProMax... are those hard to find? It sounds like people would hang on to them since they are the middle of the road in QH size. |

ProMaxs do seem harder to find in my experience. ProRacers and TGs being the easiest. You can check with Charon I know she has a used inventory on her website. just a word of caution have her send you a picture of seat measurement. I bought what I thought was a 14.5" from her but to me measured as a 13.5"... I would stalk BHW, Caldwell used inventory, and all the barrel saddle and tack pages on facebook.

I sat in 14.5" at the BBR world finals this year (at their booth) and I felt pretty good... hopefully nobody starts measuring different ways and as long as it's stamped as a 14.5 I will be okay! |

Not necessarily You need to know if it is low rise, medium rise, high rise. That can all affect how it fits you. |

Location: East Texas | I agree with everyone else, get the saddle measured with a picture of them doing it. I loved my Caldwells, but I brought a promax and it was stamped a 15in but measured as a 16in and was way way too big for me, Charon let me trade it in thankfully. |

What SG said, I stalked BHW untill one come on, I knew a low rise is what I wanted and one finally come up in my size in the Pro Max that was a low rise in excellent shape and I snatched that baby up as soon as it come on.  |

 Just when I thought I had it all figured out!!
So I'm guessing you would be a little bit bigger seat with a high rise since it would set you deeper? and vise versa for a low rise? |

Location: Beggs, OK | What size are you looking for? The ProMax's have the best resale too, so even used they are always higher. I'd like to try a Rocket. I love my ProMax, it's a very universal saddle. I've had it fit horses that I didn't think there was a chance that it would. |

Well, I thought I was looking for a 14.5"... but now with the different rises I'm not sure at all anymore! I wish I would have known more before I just sat in one and thought "okay! I'm good!" lol
And I thought fitting the horse would be the hardest part! My other gelding is more racebred looking and I know that a Double J standard tree fits him, but the Crown C also does. I don't see any of the QH trees fitting him just because of his atrophy and high withers. I just thought I'd get a ProMax if I found one within my price range and hold on to it forever since I'm more drawn the QH build horses to begin with. I wanted to stick under $2500-2800, but that's looking impossible... but I can find plenty in the other trees for that range! |

Do you know the lady with the Caldwell that you tryed and just ask her what rise does she have, if this was the saddle that felt right to you I would be finding out what the rise was.. |

I didn't ask to sit in it :( :( I just unsaddled and put a halter on my gelding and walked to her trailer and her husband sat it on my gelding, uncinched.
but I just might go back next week and see if she returns!!! She was extremely nice, so maybe next time I will explain to her my rise dilemma and see where it gets me. lol |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | What type of seats do you like, I like all my seats to be pretty flat more like a cutting saddle type, so I like all low rise in my saddles. If the Pro Max fit you horse the way you like then I would worry about the type of seat that you are used to riding in. When I found my Pro max it had the low rise so I was not worried about the seat I knew it was what I liked. |

I'm really not certain. I had a Billy Cook that I rode in for years, but when I first started riding again (had NO core) and I felt like I was going to fly backwards on hard turning horses. I've been in a Crown C for the last six months and while I really like it, I think it only suits the running style of the horse I'm used to it on. Anything that really gets really gritty in it's turns and the pitched forward feeling starts working against me... I've ran in a Pozzi once and really liked it.... so which seat do you think would work best? lol Maybe the midrise? I think a cutting wouldn't make feel secure enough, but a high rise might be a tad too much. |

| Just a note that Cladwell can easily change the rise of a saddle, however the others are correct you need to ride in the rise you are wanting to get. I had ordered a high rise, bought a used one with a medium rise for another horse and changed my high rise to a medium. These saddles sit you so well I did not did the high rise. |

Location: Beggs, OK | Where do you live? I have a 14.5" ProMax. It's on a 15" tree, but padded to be 14.5". I ordered it new from Charon and she helped me decide what size to get based on my height, weight, and build....and preferences. I like having a little room in my saddle. I mostly exercise mine in a ranch cutter so a snug barrel saddle feels too confining. |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | To me if you are uncertain about the rise, I would go with a medium rise, and like the others said you can have it changed if you dont like the feel of it. But remember the higher the rise the tighter the seat. And if you did get the high rise and got it changed to a lower then seat of your saddle will get some room in it.
