Does anyone have experience with the new formula? I've seen a few posts on it that sound good. I have a horse with COPD and want to give CurOst a try. I have done my research but can't decide whether to go with revive or immune in combination with total. How would the Revive be dosed? Would you use it for 90 days and reassess like you would with immune?

Best thing to do is go to secondvet.com and ask Dr. Schell. Or you can email him.

When I first started Cur-OST, Immune was the go-to for COPD cases. I have now tried Revive and the results are even better. I would defiantly email Dr. Schell as he can pick up on little things you mention and help aid you in what is the best formula might be for you particular horse.

I've done them all, haha! So far Revive is my pick for sure. I still have my mare on 1 scoop of Total along with Revive but I'm going to try and wean her off of Total and see how it goes.  I dose at about 2 scoops of Revive and I'll keep my mare on it, I'm too scared tot ake her off anything and have to start over.

ETA: I've had my mare on Revive since November :

The Immune Vs. the Revive would depend on the horse and how they are doing clinically.  I would definitely encourage you to ask Dr. Schell prior to ordering, however my understanding is that if the horse is not doing well clinically and has an active issue with COPD, then the Immune would be a better choice starting off, combined with the Total Support, to get the Immune system functioning as it should.  The Revive works a bit differently than the Immune is my understanding and would be a better choice for a horse that is maintaining clinically, but needs improvement in stamina, recovery, etc.

I used the Total Support and the Immune together for 90 days and have maintained on the Total Support since.  I have added in the Revive about a month ago and going to see what changes I see with it this spring.

Herbie - Did you see any change when adding the Revive to the Total?  Did you stay at the 2 scoops of Total and add in 1 scoop of Revive?    My horse has been on 2 scoops Total and 2 scoops Immune.  I then dropped to 1 scoop Immune for a while and he maintained.  I have since dropped the Immune completely and he seems to be maintaining on the 2 scoops of Total alone.  He does still cough a few times but only at the beginning of work.  I am wondering if adding in the Revive would make any difference.  Thanks

I am just now starting to make runs on my horse.  I don't have any coughing when riding at home, but didn't on just the Total Support either.  Last two years, after the initial 90 days on both the Total Support with Immune, I have maintained on Total Support alone with no issue.  I did add the Immune back in during August and September, as the heat and humidity is hard on him...but it's hard on all of them.  I just like to provide him with a bit more to be proactive.

I have noticed that his recovery time is much better.  I actually had a couple of videos on my phone showing how quickly his respirations returned to normal after 10 mins of galloping at about a 2 min clip.  His respirations were back to normal in about 5 mins, so that is definite improvement over before we added the Revive.  I have made 2 runs now since using the Revive and haven't had any coughing whatsoever or other issues, but again, I didn't have coughing before adding it.

Hope that helps!  :

Herbie, at what point did you notice your horse wasn't displacing anymore? (Or a significant reduction in the frequency?) I did loading does of Immune and Total for 21 days (because I forgot it was only for 2 wks) and am now down to regular doses. I'm on the tail end of week four. Planning on doing this combination for three months like you did. I just haven't noticed too much difference yet.

I can actually hear my horse when he displaces. His breathing changes, so I listen for that. It can become a mechanical issue if let go long enough due to scar tissue. There are times, though very few, where I hear him displace during warm up if he gets excited, but I stop and reach down and make him swallow to correct it. I have conditioned differently as well to strengthen the airways and get everything functioning like it should. My horse was in such bad shape and the glottis was so vascular and heavy, it could not function normally. Now that the inflammation is managed, it is almost a non existent issue. I also changed my headgear to a bit that lays flat in the mouth as opposed to a snaffle that collapses. I have found with my horse that a snaffle type mouth piece actually makes him want to pull his tongue back, which can contribute to displacement. Hope this helps. The sound of his breathing is his tale tale sign though. I haven't heard him do it in over a year.

I have 3 horses on the Revive. It is my favorite formula of them all. However, if I were doing an initial treatment, I would do the Immune and Total for the 90 days and then back off to Total and Revive. My IAD mare is doing very well on 1 scoop of total and 1 scoop of revive.

Thanks for the feedback.  It is actually cheaper to feed 2 scoops of the Total vs. 1 scoop Total and 1 scoop Revive.  What kind of improvements do you see with using the Revive with the Total?

Increased energy and way better recovery. My mare is lazy so wanted something to pep her up a little and that's what had me try revive to begin with.

I have a COPD gelding, diagnosed last spring, had to keep him off pasture till the grass started to die. We did not have much of a winter, lots of rain and already have lush green pastures.   He has been on Total,  on pasture 24/7 for a few months and not a single cough or runny nose  :).
