I'm new to breeding in the barrel horse world and am looking to breed for a conformationally correct foal that has good bone & will be marketable. My mare's weakest point (IMO) is her croup area...I'd like more slope and possibly a bit shorter back. She was injured before proven working on a ranch. Before her injury she could outrun any horse and has a TON of cow sense to her.

My other mare I wont get back until December so looking ahead for the following year. She was injured as a foal so has no record, bred very well, throws very nice foals. She didnt take to AI last year but is usually an easy breeder. She was live covered and confirmed in foal. So stallion if the stallion does live cover would be a plus if she doesnt take to AI.

Price range for stud fee depends on how valuable the foal would be.

Thank you for your opinion!

She's very pretty! I wouldnt be necessarily looking for more slope to the croup. The lower the tail is set, ( slope) you tend to lose length of stride behind, thus losing speed as they cant cover the ground. That said, Color always sells and when it's coupled with a strong marketable pedigree you will alway have a demand. I would probably look to a roan son of A Streak Of Fling. Double on that roan and you will most likely get a roan. High demand there. Probably the very most confirmationally correct and pretty is A Dash Ta Streak and he is producing that. His foals are beautiful! Next, of the full brothers French Streak to vegas, french streak to rodeo, and french streakin jess, .... French Streakin Jess I think is the best of the 3. All 3 successfull, but he was the most impressive in the arena and is the prettiest.

Are you looking for something that will be marketable? If so, for the roan I would look at Streaking Ta Fame. He puts some really nice hips on his babies and they are usually stout. His stud fee is reasonable for the quality stallion he is.

For the Gallo Del Cielo mare, I would invest a little more just because her bloodlines are more sought after. I would have to think for a while on her....but off the top of my head, Frenchmans Guy LOL

Yes, I am looking for something marketable. Unfortunately my pockets aren't deep enough to breed to both STF and FG unless someone wanted to purchase the foal in utero. :P. Thanks for you help and appreciate you thinking of more crosses for my mares!

I did not know that about the croup! Thank you.

I will look into those studs! Much appreciated!

You can find A Dash Ta Streak at Fultons. He is their junior sire so check their facebook page and A Streak Of Fling's facebook page. French Streakin Jess has a facebook page as well.

I would look for run for both of them.  Something more TB looking, maybe either a shorter back or longer leg also.  For the market you gotta look at what is in fashion, then a son or grandson to get a reasonable price, but.... look at the dam side too.  Remember the stud is only 1/2 the genetics.

Lions Share of Fame and Slick By Design are selling well and their colts have great conformation from all I've seen. I'm also a fan of Famous Charmer, but it seems they don't sell quite as high.

Nice mares. The roan is gorgeous, but I love the breeding on the sorrel. Good luck with your future baby daddies!!!

I would look at Streakin Boondox. He is proving himself and I love his pedigree! I also love Lions Share of Fame or Firewater Finale.
