Location: Bandera, TX | I too have had to quit for awhile. I had an implanted pain relief device that the doctor said he would only place once. If I rode and it was jerked out he would not replace it. I had to be off my horses for a long while. I was so glad when he gave me the go ahead to continue to ride. I'm "over the hill" and still breaking my own colts and I've learned that I have to do my myofascial work daily or I can't function! |

Location: /ARKANSAS | I was told 15 years ago that I should be doing water aerobics and not barrel racing. I absolutely lost it, and then I thought, that is just a medical label... You can do whatever you want to do. So I kept barrelracing, 4 years ago I had numbness below my waist I went to my chiropractor and he demanded an MRI and we found I had five bulging discs lumbar, spinal stenosis and facet arthropy and it did not happen all at once, just accumulation. I said no Doctor went to a friend physical therapy and a good friend who does massage therapy. 5 months later I was back riding!!! Don't let a label scare you, find your own ability and please don't ever let it become who you are..... |

Location: Alabama | I have 2 herniated discs. My Dr told me I would know when enough was enough. When I stepped off my horse & couldn't feel my left leg, I quit. I had the best horse I had ever owned. I raised & trained her from 4 months old & she was just starting to really lay down a run. She hated trail riding & I knew that if I kept her, I would race. I sold her to a young lady in my area. I would go watch them & was very much the proud parent. That mare won 4 saddles in the next 18 months & then died suddenly at 6 years old.
I kept a couple of horses & now trail ride occasionally. |

What is CBD oil?
This is what has been explained to me, but I have never had anything to do with cannabis. The CBD in pot is the therapeutic component of pot, THC (I think?) is the halucenginic (?) component. The CBD oil is supposed to have little if any THC in it. I PROMISE I have not been smoking it, I just have really bad spelling skills. |

| I've heard about the benefits of taking CBD oil, so I think that people take it to support their health and overall well-being. I'm not sure if it can get you high, but I don't really want to try it. I take Bio X4 to improve my metabolism and digestion, and I can say that my overall well-being has improved as well. |

Location: Woodstown, NJ | Another year has passed since I first responded to this post and told about how I broke my back and couldn't ride for years. Now I am getting ready to ride again. Maybe I'll be able to fart around at some local fun shows or small barrel races someday; I don't know. But I WILL be riding. My horses have all gotten older and have health issues of their own. So I just enjoy brushing them and loving on them. And I got myself a new younger horse. Here we go.... |

| I had several issues come to a head about 5-6 years ago. I had two surgeries to fix some of the stuff and did 2 years of PT. A couple of things I learned during these issues - if the answer from one doctor doesn't make sense, i.e., it's all in your head, it's just the way it's going to be, stop riding horses, then go to another doctor to at least get a second opinion. (Way back when I was roadracing motorcycles - I broke my thumb at Daytona, the first doc I went to to get it fixed got so huffy because I was going to another race in a week or so that he threw my bandaging at me and walked out of the room. Went to a sports ortho and he took me into a room with handlebars and clip ons (motorcycle handles) and he casted appropriately so I could keep riding without injuring the break further. The right doctor does matter!) Second thing I learned was that your doctor or surgeon won't always do their best for you or by you. My surgeon didn't prescribe or recommend any PT after my lumbar hernia was fixed. Which lead to my SI and lower back becoming as fupahed as any horses ever has been. Which took 2 years of dedicated PT to fix. And would have only taken a couple months immediately following the surgery. Question everything no matter what the first diagnoses is. Doctors are as opinionated as any other human. |

Location: Kansas | I stopped about 7 years ago due to the downs in life. Wanted to start hauling again but then ended up with a compression fracture and pelvic fracture due to getting dumped by a gelding about 3 years ago. Lost alot of confidence, so my riding skills declined as I've been too afraid to get back on and get bucked off again. I'd eventually like to start back on the barrel pattern and hauling some of my young ones. Just need to get over my confidence wall block. So I completely understand where you are at |

I lost confidence too after breaking my back in two places when I got bucked off, then not riding for about 5 years while I healed, and now I am 61 and very weak. So I bought a real quiet horse who's small. He's a QH but technically he's a pony. Maybe when I get my sea legs back, I'll get another horse someday. But he's going to help me get over the hump. |
