I have no advice on the water. But you need to keep a close eye on her from now on because this type of injury is exactly what Sidekick did that end d up developing into wobblers. It took 7 years from the injury happened until we had to destroy him. You can manage it with injections if you catch it in time and maintain it.

How did it turn into wobblers? Did it damage the neck? We took X-rays of her entire head and neck and everything looked normal except the fractures that she has

Yes. He hit a cable fence and caved his nose in. The nose came back out. But he must have damaged his neck. I didn’t realize it so it developed into wobblers and ended up killing him. Just be aware that in 3-5 Year’s, you should recheck that neck to make sure it’s ok.

Southtxponygirl - 2018-05-13 9:00 AM Has she been drinking any water since you posted yesterday about her?
No she hasn’t but she did start eating more of the mash I’m feeding her so I guess that’s a good sign. She still looks really sucked up and has probably lost at least 50 pounds since the incident

Have you tryed to see if she would drink a little bit out of a water hose? Since its pretty darn warm today I would try to see if she'll play with the hose, I would just run some water in her mouth..   She dont look to bad in the picture, but if she dont start drinking in another day I would be worry since the heat is starting to set in,, Have you talked to the Vet anymore about this?

She finally drank! She drank almost 2 gallons. I took her off bute and gastroguard and put her on CBD oil for the pain and aloe juice and bentonite clay to prevent ulcers. Since that she started to eat more and is drinking a little bit!

My mare got spooked and ran into a fence on Monday she has several facial fractures and spent 48 hours at Elgin. She was on an IV the entire time she was there then I brought her back Wednesday evening and she has not touched water since then. I’ve been fighting with her fever which spiked at 103.2 Thursday evening. After giving her alcohol baths and icing her legs all the time and giving her Bute every 12 hours I’ve finally got her temperature to maintain between 100-101 but she still won’t touch water. I’ve tried electrolytes, Gatorade, pedialyte and Zesterra but nothing is encouraging her to drink. I have been feeding her a mash with a bunch of water and electrolytes in it so I’m able to get some fluid in her that way but still not much because she doesn’t want to eat much at all. Even though I make it into like a paste I assume it still hurts to eat. I’m probably only getting 2 gallons of water a day into her that way. I talked with my vet and she said just feed the mash and electrolytes and watch her very closely. But I’m still really worried. Any suggestions????

I would try a sweet tea mix....or at least that is what i call it......mix some sweet feed in her water....maybe a small bucket like you would use at a show.........and see if that entices her to drink.

I'm a little late seeing this. If you will soak beet pulp shreds then drain off the water, kinda looks like tea. Never had a horse that would refuse it.
