okhorselover - 2019-01-05 7:52 PM WELLLLLLLLLLLLLL, I'm going to be the different person. I say more riding out in the pastures, more riding in the arena & just plain old working with your horse. Why does one feel they need calming stuff anyway ?? If your having problems with your horse, I suggest going to a trainer who is qualified to help you. The money you spend on calming stuff will pay for good help from a good trainer. JMHO

Weeeellllllllll, Darling. That’s a novel suggestion! Bless your heart for taking the time to answer.  ????‍??

We have used Animal Element Mare-auclous daily supplement for both mares and geldings. It has helped tremendously. It does not take the run out of them We have seen results within 3 to 4 days. If you are wanting something before a run - AE has a paste In the Zone that works great. If you would like more infor PM me and I can help

Thanks and good luck

Yep. I was going to mention that. I was referring to supplements. But yes, I have no problems using a little ace. But it’s not a supplement. Lol

I have two right now that you can't ride down, diet 'down, or 'tie out for hours' down.  And I have a long history of having the laziest, calmest barrel horses ever.  I've had both of theses horses for several years so I've spent a lot of time and effort trying to figure out their 'brain'.  One is the sweetest personality horse, will do tricks on the ground and will always come up to you in the pasture to see what you are doing.  But... came to me with a very fried brain and couldn't lope a complete circle without slamming into reverse and just trying to escape, couldn't trot more than two strides, and had alley issues deluxe.  I tried various feeding strategies, pastes, calming cookies, ulcer treatments, expensive supplements, cheap supplements, and few drugs... all of it!  Strictly pasture riding and 24hr turnout for a year.  Finally, after about 2 years of trials, I found she behaves best with just alfalfa pellets, a cup of calf manna, and B-1 crumbles.  She's 17 this year, runs in the 2D mostly, and low 21s in poles, goes in the alley freely and in forward motion.  Is she pleasant to ride around before or after?  No, not really so she gets ponied mostly for exercising, gets a short warm up at a race and a then sometimes we just get off and hand walk her after a run.  She's not mean or evil, just ALWAYS READY.

The other one is a blownup reining horse turned barrel horse.  She is a hypersensitive overacheiver.  NOTHING has changed this for her.  NOTHING.  Drugs, supplements, pastes, etc.  She is a dream to ride if you love touchy buttons but if you just want to lope at a relaxed pace on a loose rein, forget about it.  She did finally learn that a long, extended trot pleases me so she'll do that on a loose rein for miles.  What makes her happiest is routine.  Routine exercise around the pasture, routine barrel drills, routine pre-race warm up.  She will lope beautifully - circles, straights, zigzags - as long as you keep her between your hands and under your seat.  She really is a blast to ride.

What I realized with these two horses was I needed to change my expectations.  We are all much happier now.  Sidenote:  I currently have two others that are part of the lazy group so polar opposites!

I have had a couple in my lifetime that you could not ride down, the more you tryed to use the wet blanket and just trail riding method the hotter they would get, wish I had known about a few of the supplements I do now it sure would have saved me alot of time.. Theres just some that are bred hot and no matter how much time you spend on them it just dont work for some..

Exactly.......

I'll be another odd one out... I've had the best luck with OE Composed paste as needed. I've had several training horses come in and the owners send Oxygen, Pozzi paste etc and those horses that I've been able to tune on just needed wet blankets and to refocus their energy. The ones that I wasn't able to educate out of their energy, didn't respond to their daily supplements either, but did have good luck with the OE. Every horse will be different and every person likes a different product. But OE is what worked for me.

*no I am not a rep, I just use it and like it*

OE Composed has been the only thing that's really made a difference. I have a client using OE Composed - D daily supplement right now and is really liking it as well.

We've had good luck with the CBD pellets (and/or the tincture) in helping them to smooth their brain & relax. The one we feed to daily, the other only when needed. I also like MagRestore for a magnesium supplement.

Calming Cookies! I have a mare that feeds off the energy at barrel races. Just helps her mind stay quiet. She is a typical "squirrel?!?!" type horse lol
