I am going out to the Roundup this year and wondering if anyone has travel, lodging, restaurant recommendations?

We're thinking of flying in to Seattle, spending a day there, then driving through the mountains and going to the roundup, but looking for suggestions to do along the way, things to see, or best places to stay.

In a perfect world we'd find a mountain cabin or AirBnB.

Thank you!

ME!!! Its a very small town! There are hotels downtown and some others on the outskirts of town. I ran there at the 4th of July open barrel race. Drover 2 days to get there but so worth it! You for sure have to eat at Bramley steakhouse down town and visit there western store. The streets are lined with small cafes, bars etc. All walking distance if you get a hotel downtown.

The Round-Up is great. I find it is more fun to go for several days vs. just one day. A good place to stay is Wildhorse Casino and they have a shuttle. Which is nice because parking is pretty congested around the arena. Go to Happy Canyon. Go to the Let'er Buck Room. There is tons of shopping on all the streets around the Round-Up grounds. If your schedule allows, it is fun to go watch slack, but it is earlier in the week. Have fun! It's a blast.

Isn't Pendelton the pattern that is on grass and dirt and is like 26-28 seconds?

I thought that was Pendleton.

It sounds like really fun place to go.

I should have said a 'fun place to go...and watch', not run! LOL

I have seen it on TV several times and it is just crazy.

Nothing like you have seen before.

THE best rodeo.  We have been a couple of times and loved it.  I think the slack is on Monday and Tuesday and costs a couple of dollars to get in.  You get to see everything except the rough stock.  2 great days of watching.  Then took in the Wednesday afternoon perf.  Love the barrel race, the indian relays (with the rivalry between the tribes), all of the indian pagentry and loved the queens introductions with the rail jumping.  Would go every year if I could.

The small older hotels in town may not be as nice but they sure are convenient.  Walking distance from all the stuff going on on Main Street and within walking distance of the restaurants and bars.

If you have the time I'd go up to Mt Rainier, then I'd drive down into Yakima Valley and do some wine tasting.
The Crab Pot is in Seattle, fun place to eat.
Not sure where you are flying in from. I've only been to Pendleton once and that was to watch Flitastic run but been through it a few times. I'm originally from W. WA and now in E. WA

YEs husband has won the Round up and been many times.  IT wan one of his money rodeos...

 - if you don't have a room booked yet, I would be checking into it... reservations usually carry over year to year....

Go to Happy Canyon Pagentry in the evenings... it is a story of how the west was settled... live character, live animals. and good family
entertainment.

We used to stay at Neigh-bors Horse Motel, cute little apartment above a barn. It is right up the hill from the Round Up grounds. Not sure, it may already be booked, seems to book early but it would be worth taking a look. It has a full kitchen so no having to eat out every night.
And Lopin Leopard, I'm crushed, you didn't come to watch me run, LOL!!! ;-) The 4D race in July is the single most fun thing I've ever done IN MY LIFE!!!
Also, we went to Walla Walla wine tasting, hit Dragon's Gate Brewery on the way, had fun in the antique stores in Milton Freewater not to mention the town of Pendleton itself, Hamley's, The Prodigal Son Brewery, the museum, etc. Great place.

If you are planning on attending, I would suggest you book a hotel room now. Most if not all are already sold out. Tickets are generally available but I would purchase those well in advance too. There is not really a bad seat in the stadium during the performances. There is a schedule of events on their website. Monday slack is just steer tripping and barrels Tuesday is all the other timed events. There is a kick off parade the weekend before the rodeo start but the most amazing parade is westward ho on Friday morning it's all non-motorized!! If you have any questions feel free to PM me I live in Pendleton. Let'R Buck!

Good times and he is the one I ran at P-town, him and his "little" sister, LOL!!! He and I managed to pick up a check in the 2D the second year we ran and if I could ever get over being a big chicken to the first who knows what he could do. His little sister did me proud too, just missed a check in the 3D the second year.
Anyway, such a beautiful little town, lots to do and see up that way!!!

Start looking into booking lodging ASAP. The last time we went we had to pay a premium price for a hotel room! They start booking a year in advance. It is my all time favorite rodeo. Check out Hamley's the bar/ restaurant and western store. The rainbow Cafe is a famous dive right across from Hamley's. The Westward Ho parade is on Friday morning and is a lot of fun to watch. Get there early to find a spot to sit!

You lived the dream. That’s #1 on my bucket list. I’m four days of driving though
