I carry, all of the time. Glock 17 on duty, Glock 43 off.
I'm torn between the Glock 43 and a Smith and Wesson MP9 with the performance center. The only thing I hesitate with the Glock is because there is not a safety. Thoughts?
The standard for ANYONE carrying is: Carry what fits One's Hand and One is comfortable and proficient with. |

I agree. I like the feel of both and they are as close in size, fit etc. I'm asking about safety vs. no safety. I understand everyone has a personal preference. |

| I plan on using my husbands SIG for my class. I like it, I'm familiar with and I'm getting more comfortable handling it so most likely thats probably going to end up being mine when it's all said and done.. I'm one of those types that if I get comfortable with something, I dont want anything else. Or as my hubby calls it close minded lol!!! But when it comes to a gun i don't think there is anything wrong with sticking to what your are comfortable and CONFIDENT in using. |

Proficiency comes into play with this scenario. Glocks do not have a safety period. The Operator IS the safety. I do not carry nor own Glocks. What I carry and own has a safety on the device. However, 'I' am still the Safety first and foremost. |

This I get. I was raised around firearms and am practice safe handling measures every single time I handle a firearm. I also teach my children this. I get than no glock has a safety. What I am asking is if a person feels better having an additional safety measure on a gun such as a thumb safety. As a mother with 2 kids I not only keep my firearms locked up, but I look at all worse case scenarios. I'm not trying to start a debate on safe handling, which is better etc. I came asking a question looking for an answer. So, now I remember why I don't come over here very often. |

I'm sorry You got all butt hurt. BUT, I did address YOUR Question in an Adult, Direct Manner! The Owner/Operator is The Ultimate Safety of a Firearm whether it be a long arm or side arm. This is just factual common sense. |

I guess if I am stuffing it in my pants or have it loose in my purse then I think I need a safety. If I have a holster then I dont feel like I need one. Accidents happen but good holsters and grip or trigger safeties can make all the difference in the world. Dont buy a cheap junker |

| Safety or no safety is personal preference and your personal situation. The SIG I use doesnt have one either. I'm perfectly comfortable in that. I dont think anyone here was being snarky at all. You can ask the question over and over of which is better and get a different answer from different people.. it all comes down to personal preference and what the carrier is comfortable with. There is no wrong or right answer to that question. Its what will work for you and what you feel confident with. :-) |

I carry the 9mm because it has a safety and I am very comfortable with it. I LOVE shooting our Glock 43, but no safety so I will not carry it. I practice flicking the safety off when I shoot so I can easily flick it if I get in a tight and need my gun.... practice AND having a plan are VERY important if you carry. And, of course, having the gun where you can get your hand on it quickly. |

I prefer Glocks over another brand that does have a thumb safety for the simple fact that seconds matter. Yes, I get that perfect practice makes perfect performance in regards to muscle memory and disengaging the thumb safety while drawing the weapon. I was issued a Barretta 9mm in the Marine Corps and hated it. In a high stress situation, you're going to lose fine motor skills. Action will always beat reaction, but it really boils down to personal preference. Ultimately safety is going to boil down to how well a person handles the weapon. If you feel safer with a thumb safety, then carry a weapon with a thumb safety. None of my handguns have a thumb safety and I prefer that. I also keep them all locked up since I've got my kiddos running around. |

foundation horse made an excellent point. I in no way feel he was attacking you. When it comes to firewarms, it is always a good idea to take what everyone says to heart. Especially the experienced and the past or current military members. I don't personally know anyone that carries a Glock and when I say nearly everyone in WY carries, I mean pretty much if you are of age, you carry a pistol. My pistol of choice is a revolver. I have speed loaders, but that is what I have shot and handled since I was 6 yrs old and I am comfortable with it. I think one of these days I'll try and get handy with a semi auto but for now I love my trusty s&w revolver. |

I had and carried a S&W L Frame in a .357 Magnum w/ a two barrel. Dang thing was a hand cannon w/ .357 Magnum Loads. (Shot and 18" flame) Got to where I only shot .38+P+ on account of it power. And I carried speed loaders as well. This was in the 80s. Now, I carry a semi auto with LOTS of extra mags. 9mm |

Yes it's a .357! foundation horse I may chat with you later about semis to carry. My dad has just about anything out there, so once I narrow it down I can practice with his before I buy. I have small hands/short fingers, so that might play into it. |
