So my mare ended up getting injured and is most likley going to be a brood mare. I do have a yearling stud colt out of her by Trippin On Fame that I am keeping. Im thinking of breeding her with the intention to sell the baby as either a yearling or 2 year old. With that in mind I would like suggestions on which stud horses would complement her.

Depends on your budget. Slick By Design is hot. The Epic Leaders are doing well. A lot of people are really liking Laicos Ladiesman. There are a lot of ways you could go.

I think we will see a big jump in both Slick and Epic Leader stud fee's in 2020.  They both came onto the futurity scene very strong.  

Are you looking for this year or next?

Im looking to breed next spring, so pay for the stud fee around the end of this year. I just want to breed something that will complement a Blazin Jetolena and hopfully be a yearling that would be easy to sell based on bloodlines.

Look at the conformation of the stallion & your mare & does he complement your mare. Be honest with yourself regarding your mare. What things do you not like about her that a good stallion can complement. For instance I have a mare who has a short back. She was a great barrel horse & was a fut & open money earner. I look for a stallion with a little longer back, who will complement her. Yes I look at pedigree, but it is so important to look at conformation first. To many people just run out & breed their mare to the flavor of the month stallion. JMHO

We have a daughter up here thats wicked fast and hard to beat, she is by Blazin Jetolena and out of Sail On Bunny mare.

I know she is a senstive topic but Fallon Taylor's mare LoLo is out of BabyFlo and by Blazin Jetolena. She is quick and from what she says very quiet which is that OTMR/ Flit Bar.

I agree with the previous poster. Make a list of all the "hot" studs that are good resale, then narrow them down by who would actually compliment her conformation wise. There's a LOT of really nice studs out there, I'm sure you can find one that does both.

Thank you!  Her dam was my college rodeo horse. That Mare had some amazing bloodlines that you just don’t see anymore.  I’ll definitely have to get some friends to help me look at her confirmation because I really suck at that LOL. As far as attitude goes she’s pretty awesome but she’s also pretty *****y she loves to work and she’s most happy when she’s being ridden, kind of grumpy when she’s not being ridden. 

 

 This mare is super quick around the barrels but she loses speed on the straights. I think that would be her one downfall so I think I need a stud that’s going to add some run to her. But she can get around a barrel so quick she almost loses me every time.
