| Right now I have a problem with my saddle pad that I am using. I have a corriente saddle and the fit is awesome and I was using a bio-fit saddle pad until her shoulders evened out in their muscling and now they have. The pad has been causing the saddle to be too tight in the withers and causing pain and soreness. What do you all recomend? I can use a regular pad but it doesn't give me the wither relief nor the back support that she needs. I am willing to spend up to $200 but would love to spend less. TIA | |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | How thick is the pad that you are using now? You need to look into the 5 Stars, they come in different thickness. My saddles that fit well I use a 3/4 thickness..

| Unfortunately, the problem isn't your pad it's the Saddle. If the saddle isn't fitting and allowing wither clearance with a regular pad then its to wide. Shimming is a good idea for a minor problem and gets you buy to fix those minor issues with adjusting fit on an already decent fitting saddle... It shouldn't be what fixes something that is way off from fitting with a standard pad. If you need to shim a little I'd use a regular pad and buy one of the martin black foam shims. That way you can place it where needed and use one or two together to biuld up as much as you need to. | |

| The pad I am using right now is 1 inch. As for it being the saddle, I can use a regular pad and it works just fine. The biofit padding was creating too much of a tight space in the withers, the regular pad does not. I will look into shimming. | |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | So you are saying the saddle sits on her withers if you use a reg. pad? Do you have pictures of the mare saddled up? I'm kinda confused as to what you are saying, you said that the saddle is a good fit, but now I had to reread your post and saying the reg pad dont give wither relief, so does that mean the saddle sits down on her withers?

Ditto...wouldn’t mind seeing pictures saddled, I’m confused. But, 5 stars are worth the money if the saddle does fit. Contact RockyRoad on here for them, she gives BHW folks a great deal.

I am very sorry that I am being confusing, that is not my intention. I do not have any pictures right now of her with the saddle and regular pad on. What I am referring to as a regular pad I know does not fit her as well as it should as it it way too thick, it is over 1 inch thick. This is why I am saying it is not giving her wither relief because it is being again too thick like the biofit. The added thickness is just not being concentrated in the wither like with the biofit. I do not have any thinner pads at the moment to compare but I will see what I can perhaps borrow. Again, I am sorry for being confusing!!

You really need to try a pad thats 3/4 or maybe even a pad that's 7/8.. A 1 inch pad is just to thick of a pad to use with a good fitting barrel saddle. Now to me thats what is causing the soreness, its like putting on really thick socks with a good fitting shoe, too tight.. So you are saying no wither relief because the pad is just too thick, so the saddle is not sitting on her withers right?

Yes that is exactly what I mean! Thank you for deciphering my words?? I will be looking for a thinner pad to use now.
