I don't have any experience with the "Sports Bar" side but Iris Sports Bar is a grandson (mare's side - Pansy Iris) of Sambo Watts who produced a lot of barrel horses back in the day. The Garrels family (Mount Pleasant, Iowa) crossed Sambo with Iris Leo bred mares. At one time, there were EIGHT barrel horses with that breeding who could win at ANY barrel race.

I knew the people that had the Iris Sports Bar stud, he was a very nicely put together horse with a wonderful laid back attitude.  They raced his offspring on the quarter horse tracks, then the horses would end up making some pretty nice barrel horses.

I’ve never owned an “I’m a Sports bar” horse, but he is the sire of Iris Sports Bar. The sports bar line had a lot of sense and made really nice using horses. Likewise the Sambo Watts bred horses. Most of my experience was with Iris Leo and crossed with Sambo Watts mares. The Leo cross on a Sambo mare would burn up a barrel pattern or the race track.

If you are looking at and Iris Sports Bar, I wouldn’t be afraid of it. But I’d love to find another Iris Leo Cross
