My gelding scratches on everything and rubs his tail and mane out every summer but this year it was worse than before. I had a suggestion to look into switching him to Renew Gold. Has anyone had any personal experience with it or have heard good things about it helping with allergies?
Hopefully Mr Win will chime in. But you can also search Renew Gold threads to maybe get some info. . .
We use Omega Horse Shine.

I tried searching by the words Renew Gold allergy/allergies/itch/etc and found one or two threads with those words here and there but not much information on the scratching/allergy side of it.

Have you have any problems with scratching that it helped or allergies?

After I posted that I realized that I didn't remember much if anything about allergies and RG. . . Hopefully you'll get some good information from other barrel buddies.
Well, renew gold stabilizes there gut and makes the gut function as it should efficiently. Most allergies begin in the gut along with the immune system. So makes sense Renew Gold would help the horse combat allergies.
Well I be darned!! Did not realize this until this thread but my 30 year old who in the past would tear his mane out scratching and since I have been feeding the RG to him for the past year he has not done that. I might have to switch my other gelding back to the RG. I took him off of RG and he is on the Coolstance Copra which the RG has it in their feed but doesn't seem to be the same as my 30 year old. Although both don't scratch as much as they have done in the past. But they both get the Omega Horseshine also.
Normalizing the hind gut does effect allergies. If the problem is environmental (seasonal mold or pollen) the change can be significant. What you are seeing can also be a combination of seasonal sensitivity and a borderline allergic reaction to soy found in many horse feeds. Renew Gold can have a positive effect in both cases in the underlying problem is one of these.
