| What popular barrel racing bloodlines does everyone think are the most trainable or what ones seem to be lazy, defiant, or fractious? I haven't had experience with a lot of them, I would love to hear other peoples experiences.

Location: Kansas | I will forever be a fan of sun frost bred horses, and driftwood. I have a driftwood bred mare and she's smarter than her own good. Quick to pick up on new things, she was a breeze to get started under saddle |

Location: California | I agree with the above poster about Sun Frost. The ones I have trained have been sooo good minded and trainable. The Dash Ta Fame's I have worked with have been more difficult/fractious and I am personally not a fan. I also love some of the cow horse bloodlines - Grays Starlight and I'll Be Smart are two bloodlines I have had the pleasure of training and loved. I have a few young Smart Little Lena bred mares that are so **** smart and want to be so broke - but they can be a little quirky and sassy (which I don't mind). |

| Dash For Cash and Easy Jet are the most prolific barrel producers meaning that through the generations they have not lost their speed, athleticism, and disposition. I have two mares that are sisters that are Dash Ta Fame and both are quiet and eager to please. One of them had to walk into an arena and stand until the gate was closed behind her at the World Buckskin Show. She made four runs with two different riders within a short period of time and was just as quiet on the fourth run as she was on the first. That is asking a lot of any horse, this was a five year old. These two are granddaughters of Leaving Memories so they have Dash For Cash top and bottom.
Forgot to add that's little sister is one you can practice the pattern on until she drops dead and she never gets hot. I hate working the pattern at home but she is a unique character. She'll do it.

Location: OH | I have to agree with the above statements about Sun Frost/Driftwoods. We made the change to these bloodlines in the early 2000's and it has been the best decision we could have made. We were tired of spending all the time it took to get a colt going only to find they didn't hold up--they either didn't have the mind to handle the pressure once asked or they ended up coming up sore. This is no longer an issue. |

| My late stud by Sun Frost was hands down the best minded horse I've ever had the chance to be around. I know a few colt starters who really like Famous Bugs geldings. Generally DTF's have good minds. I've had a couple grandget that were average at best. I currently have a Pepper Joe Hancock mare out of a Freckles Playboy daughter that is elite in her athletic ability and mind. Everybody really loves the pepper joes, too bad he is old now. |

I agree with this 110%. My mare was by far the easiest horse I have ever trained. She is by PC Joes Frost and out of a Lone Drifter daughter. She was so incredibly trainable, so quiet and naturally athletic. This was our first season and she clocked 2D times and won a Ranch Riding class the same day she wont a buckle for speed events. |

Location: Where I am happiest | We have 2 by Firewaterontherocks. They are both incredibly minded. Both started very easy and just rode off the first day being ridden like they had 30 days already. The colt is just starting his futurity year and ran 4th in the 1D his first time being entered. The filly is just turning 3. Both have been amazingly easy and smart.

We also have two by Firewaterontherocks. They both love people, are very smart, and easy to handle. They’re definitely my favorites! I thought I ruined my 6 year old and just brought her to my trainer on Sunday. That horse has remembered everything she was ever taught (she has a wonderful foundation), so now I clearly need lessons on how to ride and not just sit there. But that horse is so forgiving. Love love love my FWOTR horses! |

Location: Tex. Panhandle | Like most the others I am a huge fan of the Sun Frost and then FG breeding. No matter what they are crossed on they seem to have great minds, be smart/trainable and just easy to get going. I'm also a huge fan of the First Down Dash horses. I currently have a Famous Bugs gelding and am pinning for another 1. All the horses by him (and I've see sev) are all easy, laid back, super trainable and wicked fast. I have a good friend that loves the corona cartel bred horses and she has had really good luck with that line as well! |
