So for my Birthday coming up next month, my hubby and kids want to get me a 5 star pad. I've never had one, so I'm kinda excited but I'm not sure which one to get. The performer or the barrel racer?? Or all around ... the current pad I have is a cactus and its actually a roper so it's too thick on my barrel saddle on him.. it works "ok" but I want a tad thinner. Any advice on 5 stars will be greatly appreciated!

If your saddle is a really good fit I would go with a 3/4 or maybe a 7/8 just depends on how well your saddle fits and in a barrel cut. But really the best person that can really help you would be Deanna {RockyRoad} She is good with questions.. I have more then a few 5 stars in different thickness and my go to pad on a good fitting saddle is the 3/4 pad.

It fits ok.. but I think it's the pad that may cause a few minor issues, so definitely want thinner. Probably go with the 3/4... maybe. I got a little dizzy on the price when I customized one on their website though... I decided I just want plain and simple nothing fancy. If I want to get colorful or exciting I can always add in colorful boots and or a tack set.. but I'm pretty plain Jane so my tack is too lol! My horse is white so really any color will be fine.

Deanna is who you need to buy from, she gives discounts to us here on BHW, I have bought I dont know how many from her I lost count, but shes got the best prices and I dont go for the color ones either but I like the different types of wear leathers you can choose from, I had my brand put on all my pads to, except for one I think. I'll find a picture for you.

Would love to help you!  I'm not on here much anymore, but a little birdie told me Roxie had mentioned me.  :)

just shoot me a msg & we can go from there.  And unfortunately, 5 Star DID put in a price increase as of Jan 1, that many (if not all) dealers were NOT made aware of ahead of time.  :(

We order all of ours through Deanna as well!  Make sure to measure your saddle skirts front to make and get one long or short enough and the "drop" side to side so your rigging is on the pad, oversights I've made in the past thinking I "knew" the dimensions on a pad that I was currently using.  I also really like leg cutouts to reduce bulk under my leg.

I thought about the cut outs too. It seems to just make sense! I'll measure my saddle today. Going to measure that cactus roping pad I have because other than being too thick it fits that saddle good. I'm getting excited about ordering it! My birthday is still a month away. Funny little side story... my husband and I went to the shooting range yesterday for some quality time together... I got to shoot his nephews sig p320 for the first time and I fell in love with it, I was dead on with it on my targets. I told him man, I love this gun, wish I had gotten this instead of my glock. After a while he left me alone in my lane.. I thought maybe he had gone to the restroom or just taking a break... he comes back carrying a case with a big ol grin on his face and hands it to me.. that turkey went to the gun store in the range and bought me my own p320 ahhhhhh! I shot it a bunch and I just absolutely love this gun! On our way out when we could actually talk to each other, I said what's this gun for? My Birthday? He said no, valentines day lol!! Ok cause I got a little nervous I still need that 5 star pad lol! He said, yeah yeah  . I know .. this isnt your bday present so dont worry. Phew!!! I mean I love my gun.. dont get me wrong! I married a wonderful man!

There are lightly used 5 star FB pages with lots of pad forsale. I like to look at the examples of what folks bought

There is a factor second page for 5 star pads too.

measure your saddle some need a 30 x 30 and others use 28 x 28.

My bob Marshal saddle needs the larger but my triple creek loks best on a 28 x 28

Actually, the only way you can get a 28x28 is to have it custom cut & that adds quite a big chunk to the price.  Standard sizes are 30 wide x 28 or 30 long; 32 x 32; and 32 wide x 30 long.  Anything else has to be custom cut.

And my Used 5 Star does get a lot of traffic, especially since they did the unannounced price increase Jan 1.

That is a cool looking gun!  Is it lighter/easier to handle?  What about it do you like better?  I've been looking at getting another & wish we had a range around here where you could try them too.  (they do "back home" & am headed back there in March so may try to get into one of them.  I can either buy & have it shipped to a local dealer we go through or just buy the one I like once I get home).

I'm coming from a glock 19 ... this sig just fits my hand better, its lighter and just more accurate to me than my glock was. I still like a glock but I'm enjoying this sig for now. My husband was trying00  to talk in me into this smaller gun, easier to conceal.. I tried to get along with it but just couldn't get use to it and I didn't  feel accurate with it in the range... even though it fit easily in my pocket. I'm not a small dainty gal lol! I'm 5'11 and this sig feels like I'm actually holding something solid, and I always feel like the smaller the pistol the bigger the kick! This p320 has zero kick, even less than my glock, keeps my shots honest and accurate. My glock would jam up on me too, we bought it brand new and I had fired several mags thru it and it would jam out of nowhere till we changed to brass ammo. I took my LTC with my husbands sig and did quite well with it but I was all about getting a glock lol! Oh well.. I got my sig now.
