Interested in opinions on feeding free choice hay at shows. I keep  hay bags full for my horses at trailer while at shows, before and after they run. I hope that cuts down chances of ulcers and does not impede performance.

I always let mine munch on hay while at shows, hauling, in their stalls. Basically if they're not on pasture they've got hay. I feel like it keeps their bellies happy :)

Mine have Hay Chix nets at all times while at shows, but I do pull when I'm saddling to make my run. I don't saddle in advance, I saddle when I need to get on. Otherwise the only time while traveling they don't have it is in the trailer on the road

Absolutely! At home they have free access to grass hay 24/7 so on the road nothing changes.

First thing I do when I unload, is hang their hay bag.  Then go get water.  Traveling and competing is stressful. I want to keep ulcers away. I want them to be happy!

I feel so bad that I see horses standing at their trailers all day with nothing.  You can sure bet their owners have lunch and supper while they are there!

Horses are made to pretty much have constant input of forage. Its trouble when they don't for extended periods of time.
