Does anyone on here take thyroid medication?  If so what is brand name, is it working for you, how do you feel?

I take Levothyroxine. I feel better than I did without it.

This is what my husband takes - he doesn't have a thyroid due to cancer. He does well on it and has for several years.

That is what my doctor put me on is Levothyroxine.  I have been on it a month or more and I feel no different.  My TSH was/is 68.62.  I am guessing that is bad.

Are you taking it at least 30 min on an empty stomach?

Yes I take it about 4:00 am as I have to get up and go to the bathroom anyway and I usually have my coffee at 5:00 am.

Did they also check your vit d? Mine was crazy low and mimicked hypothyroidism.

I take the generic, Synthroid. Been on it almost 27 yrs.

How do I feel on it? I feel "normal" as in I don't have any issues from taking it.

Yes my Vit D was also low.  She also put me on a prescription for Vit D of 50,000 which I take 2x a week.  I am thinking of only taking it once a week as I have been reading on the dosage of Vit D and most only do the 50,000 once a week and only for 30 days then you go back to OTC Vit D which I take every day.  Can't understand why my Vit D was low.  Not sure the OTC Vit D does much good.

So I am hoping that this Levothyroxine gets to working and I get to feeling better.

It took me about a year to feel better once my vit d leveled out. I take 5000 iu everyday now, even in the summer. Idk why mine was so low either. I work nights but at the time I was outside for a minimum of 2 hours a day in the day winter.

Not to side track. I've been really struggling and the last time I was tested 3ish years ago my TSH was 2.5 ( which I know isn't technically high). I've been doing some reading and some are saying that for an otherwise healthy 23 yr old, the best functioning range is between 0.3 and 2.0. I have a lot of the other symptoms not just weight gain. Curious as to what anybody's suggestions may be. Should I go to a more specific thyroid doctor or am I overthinking,

I just had my thyroid removed Jan 13th. They decided to take it out as it was suspicious for cancer. Thank god that all came back negative. I was having some side effects from the medication: nausea, constantly tired, anxiety. After about a month I an starting to feel pretty normal again.

Had bloodwork done and my Thyroid levels are still off.  Started out at 68.62 then 14.42 so she changed my dosage.  Started out on Levothyroxine at 75 mg then she upped it to 112 mg.  I go back for bloodwork in 6-8 weeks to see how my levels are doing.  I can't really say I am feeling better.  Maybe my hair loss has slowed down some, I may have lost a "couple" of pounds but I still feel tired, muscle aches and pains, every once in a while I think I spike a fever.  The only thing I have noticed to the good is that I am not waking up to go to the bathroom every 2 hours.  Lately it has only been once a night at around 2:00 am.  That is when I take my Thyroid pill.  I would just like to get some energy back.

I've been on Synthroid for 18 years.  I started sleeping a lot.  I would get 8 hours of sleep at night and also take a 2+ hour nap.  I know I needed some changes.  I had bloodwork, and my levels were awful.  My doctor changed me to Levothyroxine.  It is helping, but I'm still tired and sleeping more.  I don't have much energy.  Some of my vitamin levels are deficient also, so I'm working to level those out.

Be sure to MAKE the doctor check your thyroid antibodies. You may have a root cause for you thyroid not functioning properly and most doctors will not due further testing that just your T3, T4, TSH give you a pill and send you on your way.  If your antibodies are high you may have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. And check the level of your vitamin D that is very important as well. I have been levo and lioth for a while now with little improvement.

Yes I take prescription Vit D but they only leave you on it for a month then they tell you to go back to OTC Vit D.  I did that a year ago and my Vit D levels still came back low.  Not sure if the OTC Vit D works.  If it does maybe I am not using the right brand.  Also those of you on Levothyroxine did you have symptoms of spiking a fever?  I thought I read where that is one of the side effects of this drug.  Why do drugs that are supposed to help you have so many side effects?  Also I am still losing hair not at the rate I was but more than what I was when I was off of the drug.  I just hope all the side effects go away and my Thyroid levels out.
