Is anyone familiar with a Paul Humphrey Correction bit? It's a bit that my new horse does slow work in. I was looking for it but then a dressage trainer/instructor I know said that's its a very cruel bit that has a "nut cracker" like action to it based on looking at the picture of the bit.  This of course doesn't sound good. But I have to say I don't know a lot about correction bits so thought I check and see what other barrel racers think of them. She runs in a low port Futurity bit (I have that) and I have a Myler bit similiar to that I plan to try on her as well. But I'm trying to keep her as close to what she's used as I can as she is running great. So I'm just curious what people think of the PH.

it's a great bit but it does have quite a bit of leverage. I use it for tuning some horses that can be pushy and strong.

it does not have "nut cracker " type actions. It has tongue relief with a hinged, gentle port. Usually won't scare a horse unless the rider is super rough handed.

I have never used it, but it looks like a really nice bit.

It's a great bit for slow work for sure... which is what you said it would be used for.  I do like the draw correction better (same mouthpiece).

They are hard to get.  Paul supposedly won't sell them to people that haven't done his clinics.  But I have seen one on Bit Auction so they are out there.

I am a big time fan of a good correction bit and have been riding some of my horses in them at home for slow work for years.  My daughter and I went to a PH clinic a few years ago and he suggested this bit for her and her horse to work in sometimes.  I had been trying to get her to put one of mine on the horse occassionally but of course she wouldn't listen to 'mom'.  She uses this bit on 'horsemanship' days and I'll use it if I need just a little something different than my norm.  I like it and it likes me.  Like any of them -- the bit, the horse, and the hands all have to 'fit' one another.

Its not one I personaly like however if your horse works good in it and you like the feel of it by all means keep using it.
