Depends on what it is you're doing.

If you are rodeoing sometimes you will run 3 nights in a row.

I personally don't run my horses at jackpots during the week if I am rodeoing. Unless they aren't working how I want I might go to just work on doing things correct since you don't have a lot of money up for grabs.

I run maybe 3 times a week maybe, with my jackpot horses. Usually just twice a week. If I am able to I like them to have a rest day after. Lets say I go to a 3 day race. I will usually let them have a day or two to rest.

Jackpot or rodeo pretty much every weekend (1, maybe 2 runs I like to roll my time to the sidepot if I can) and then a 3 day show about once a month. Ride during the week and rest day after runs.

I have a jackpot horse and a rodeo horse. Then I also have a youngster that is getting hauled to both too.

I run my rodeo horse almost 2-3x a week from June to September, then he goes back to going 1-2x a month throughout the fall-spring. I never run him at home. Ever. Not even drill him. Just keep him conditioned and in shape.

My jackpot horse on the other hand, he gets drilled here and there on the pattern. He's older but he's been a pasture pet since 2014  so he needs a tune up here and there. He runs during the jackpot season 3-4x a month regularly. He's also my backup rodeo horse in case my guy isn't feeling 110%.

My up and coming gets rode daily and sees the pattern at least 80% of the time right now. The other 20% is just ranching on them. She will get exhibtioned at every race I haul her to, which depends on the schedule mainly. I haul her everywhere just so she can see the sights.

Oh! I was just wondering because I have an older guy (16) and I ran him last saturday, and we are planning on running again this coming Wednesday the 27th and Saturday the 30th, and Saturday the 6th. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't overdoing it I guess. We only run once each show. I don't do rodeo, just jackpots so the ground is usually in good shape.

Max of 3 (maaaaaybe 4) times a week unless I'm really going for the gold in rodeos (which I'm not lol). This weekend I'll run once Friday, once Saturday and once Monday. They get to go home every night so I figure it's no different than a 3 day show. Better than a 3 day show actually - he'll get a rest day in between and gets to go home rather than being stuck in an unfamiliar stall.

My two barrel horses are 13 and 18! They get ran more than that on a normal basis. Just keep the maintenance up and keep them comfortable and feeling 110%! They will last you a lifetime if you take care of them at the peak level like theyre a NFR champion
