Hands down the Nettles, I have the half breeds, but I think the halfbreeds are called something else now, but dont know what, I would have to look them up and see what they call them now.

I just couldn't stand the aluminum ones anymore, & that is how I originally got my Nettles & then added them to my products I sell.  They do still have the Halfbreeds - they have a leather wrapped foot, & the same style but with the rubber gripper foot is called the Barrel Racer.  The Flatbottoms used to be pretty popular, but hands down, I sell more Barrel Racers.  I do give BHW folks a discount too, so if you are interested, just msg me or through FB.

Also, they are SO much more comfortable than aluminum - the 6 layers of wood have "give" to them, so much easier on your joints.  And if mine hit my shin when I'm carrying my saddle, doesn't bruise the heck out of it like the aluminum ones did, LOL!   I also got sick of the stain on my boots & pant legs from aluminum.

Thanks Roxie!!  The Halfbreeds still look like that pic, with the leather wrapped foot.  They have the Barrel Racer now that is the same stirrup, just the rubber grippy on the foot.

Nettles are wonderful. I quit using aluminum because when I would carry my saddle, one would smack my knee. I got tired of the hurt. Glad I made the switch to nettles. That & the fact that nettles just work better for me.

If you go wood, only buy Nettles. There are some cheap copies out there. If you ever go down with your leg under the horse the cheap ones crush and you can't get your foot out. Bad news if the horse panics and gets up. Nettles will not do that.

Nettles!!! Can't imagine riding without them! So comfortable, and hold your foot in the stirrup, just right.

I bought a used saddle for my 11yo and I think they accidentally left the wood Nettles stirrups on the saddle.  Now shes a total stirrup SNOB!!! the best part is I never told her that the stirrups were special she figured it out all on her own and told me one day that she loves her new saddle but her favorite part is the wooden stirrups that she felt like made her ride better.  I got her another used saddle so she can run two horses and we dont have the crazy saddle switch but shes already begging me for some wood stirrups.   If thats not a testimonial I dont know what it is.

Orrells stirrups look very good. I have never used them, but have a lot of experience with Nettles and have always been very satisfied with them.

We have both.  It's a personal preference.  They both are nice quality.

I know the Orrells (though only met Don once) and have wanted a pair of them since I saw them!   Loved the Nettles when I saw them also.   I haven't had the privilege of riding in either set unfortunately.
