Please don't comment if you haven't actually used one of these products. Please do comment if you have used one or more.

I have used them ALL........ summit I used before I knew it was an MLM and product that's not manufactured in an FDA approved lab. And I saw no results. Legend I use the day before a run or weekend of runs. It only lasts a few days but is a great, expensive, product. Pentosan I have used in horses with known issues. Worked well. All my horses get an adequan full series twice a year.  I have also use polyglycan and like it a little better than legend. It lasts quite a bit longer/ monthly vs only a few days. It all just depends on the horse. Are you treating a horse with known issues or preventative in a young horse.

A ten year old who gets hock injections twice a year but really needs them three times and a five year old who would be preventative.

If it were my horses I would use monthly pentosan or polyglycan on the horse needing hock injections and an additional dose few days before a long weekend of hard work. For the preventative 5 year old , adequan would be perfect !

I have used them all. Summit I saw no difference.  And they have reps on every corner.  Adequan and Legend ,Polyglycan I saw results.  It depends on what your trying to accomplish but can get pricey.  For the 10 year old I would use Polyglycan or Movex. For the one as a preventative, I would use Adequan.

There is an adequan substitute called ICHON. If your vet will give you a prescription for it. And it's way cheaper. If budget is a concern, you might just go with pentosan , it's also way more affordable.

I've used Legend and Summit. Absolutely no change with Summit so I went back to using injectable glucosamine. Very affordable. I pay $45 for 100ml.

Yes, forgot about the Inj Glucosamine! Certainly an affordable option

If I am reading correctly ... It would cost you the same to inject 3 times a year in the hocks vs trying other things that you aren't sure work....

I have a similar 10 year old with arthritic hocks. She needs injections 2x yearly. Might be 3x but she just got kicked 2 weeks ago so she is out for a bit anyway. I do a loading dose of pentosan 2x yearly (march & september) to add additional support. As with adequan instrctions (not available in my country) vets are seeing greater results with loading doses rather than one shot per month

I've used Legend and Adequan, had ok results. Legend only lasts a couple days. My vet had me switch to injectable glucosamine and it's done jsut as well for me as anything. And significantly more affordable. My vet showed me some studies he's been following and they're showing that the gluosmaine is nearly equally as effective as the other options. And super budget friendly. My 100ml bottle is $50 and I do a 10ml dose every other week. My horses are also on Exceed 6-Way as well

One thing to keep in mind with injections -- once you start joint injections with steriods you have started a countdown on how many times you will get results with the injections. Every horse may be different, but steriod injections in joints do damage each time they are administered. How many times your horse will get relief from injections depends on so many things. Sometimes one time is enough inflammation releif to let a joint heal and this is the right way to use injections. Sometimes they seem to be used multiple times a year as a necessity to get the horse to perform well. In that case the horse is probably nearing the end of carreer. I've heard different numbers from different vets, but generally if your horse needs injections 3 times a year then you most likely will only get relief for about 3 years. Maybe another year, maybe only 2.

Injectible supplements (glucosamine, legends, adequan, etc.) don't seem to lose their effectiveness over time, and cause no known harm as long as injections are given properly.

I don't mind injections as needed, but I'd rather bute or banamine and give an extra adequan shot or two for race day/weekend than give steriod injections on a regular basis. Only my opinion.

I have tried Adequan and Pentosan.

For Red (he has many issues), I do feel the Adequan helped him move a little better and not quite be so stiff for his warmup. My vet had me do the loading dose and then give a shot once a month. For about a week-ish after the monthly shot, is when I felt he had the most help from it. Of course, Adequan is expensive and I didn't want to give it more often b/c of it, so decided to try Pentosan this year. WOW. Wow. wow.  I did the loading dose and then continued one shot every 2 weeks. It probably took about 6 weeks total but he was no longer stiff at all for warmup. I was shocked, quite honestly. So guess who is never getting taken off it, LOL. Now that colder weather is returning, he has a little bit of stiffness for warmup but I'm going to chaulk that up to the weather.

For Shotgun, I put him on Adequan this year mostly for preventative. Since he didn't really have an issues, really, I have no idea if it helped. Made me feel better I was giving him something for his joints but that's about it. Later this year, he was diagnosed with a neck issue so I just started him on Pentosan now too, just to see if I notice anything for him. So to be determined.

Next year, I'll probably start my other horse Dexter on pentosan too, to see how he does. He has some lameness issues too. I was just blown away with the results with my horse Red, and it's dirt cheap compared to other IM injections.

What dose/concentration of Pentosan are y'all using? I used it before and was pleased, but I can't remember the concentration to reorder.

Cool. That's what I was thinking it was last time I used it.

I know of a different joint supplement that is called GLC 5500MAX that I have had great luck with. It is very cost friendly. I was recomended it by a friend who was able to completely stop using injections on a horse that needed them 2-4 times a year by feeding this product. It also is a great preventative. The brand is Cutting Edge Performance. PLUS, they have a 30 day money back guarantee so if you aren't seeing the results you want and need you can get all your money back. That is why I was so open to trying it.(:

Equithrive is a feed through supplement.  Absolutely works.  Recommended by top lameness vets.  Vets that normally won’t recommend a feed through love this supplement.  It’s 130.00 for 60 day .
