Charmayne was in a no win situation. If she ran him and he wasn't as good as Scamper, people would have hung the horse out to dry over it. As much as it cost to create that horse, would you really want to risk injury by running him when your sole purpose was to use him for the genetics he had? Doubtful.

Actually all but one of the FG clones were gelded I believe. So that sort of blows the theory of them being for semen only.

Blaise Bercequey has been running her Red Man Bay clone. He was doing pretty good but got injured. I'm not sure if he's healed yet or not.

Ditto, the Latte clone has been doing well.

A friend of mine has ridden two get of the Hotshot clone. She said both were very talented and athletic. She's a fan as far as his siring abilities are going.

The FG clones were for semen. That is my opinion. Personally, I would not spend the money to breed to FG because of the clones

I originally had the same thought, but I honestly don't think they'd risk getting caught and they are so sparing on the frozen they offer I would think they would offer more if the well wasn't running dry.

I took a chance and I've got one due May. I've always wanted to breed to him so I'm excited.

I don't think AQHA would register them if they were not by FG himself, last I checked they aren't accepting clones as AQHA sires?

They would have no way of knowing.  The DNA would be the same.

  I guess you're right...

I wonder if aqha is still registering babies by FG then simply for this reason.  How would they know

Local girl has a Clayton colt. She sent him to school, but he flunked out and came home. I think the truth is she missed him. I don't wig he'll ever be anything but a pasture pet. ??

I'd take a FG clone baby...people give me **** about my now 2YO FG asking me if I think shes from clone semen, and no I do not... but I would have bought her anyway.

  1. Just so you can shame those who give you a hard time about clones.  The AQHA WOULD most likely know if it was from a clone. Most clones are not 100 percent dna matches. They are in the 99 plus percent range. Since the egg which is hollowed out to inject the clone dna is from a donor mare, it has some mitochondrial dna left behind. I suspect this would be picked up when they compare the dna for registration of the offspring to the parents of record.  Might have to do some investigation to be sure about this, but I'm sure as horsey (pardon the pun) as the AQHA is nowadays, they are on the lookout for the horses they know have been cloned
