Who is planning to get the COVID vaccine? Who is not?

Do you think it will eventually be mandatory to travel, go to concerts, or anything else really? Or mandated by the government?

I'm about 95% sure I'm not going to get it when it's offered to me.

I do not plan on getting it unless it is required for my job.  I think they are going to force people to get the shot.

I would like to hear valid reasons people have for NOT getting it. Is it all conspiracy theory? Long term side effects we don't know of? Thanks!

I don't even take the flu shot, so....................I also don't think it's been tested long enough.  So, that's my reasoning.

Yes, I will get the vaccine as soon as it's available to me. I am 65. I have a terrible case of adult asthma. I do not want to spend the remainder of my life avoiding society in order to stay alive. I want to get the vaccine and get back into the world -- I want to show my horses -- I want to travel. I have never hesitated to obtain recommended vaccines. I have friends who lost their hearing when the mumps swept through my elementary school; I have lost friends who developed polio in the late 50s and early 60s. I know the power of vaccines.

If people don't want to get the vaccine, that's fine by me.  I got my first vaccine about 9 days ago, and I'll get my second vaccine in 2 weeks. I can only go by what I've read about it and it's pretty exciting to me how they developed it.  The efficacy, in terms of immunity, is 95% and that's pretty amazing.  The unanswered question is how long will it provide adequate protection.  As best as I can tell, it looks like a minimum of 8 months and counting.  I think that's based on antibody titers of those who were vaccinated during the trials last summer.  I wouldn't be surprised to learn this might be like a flu vaccine where annual vaccinations are recommended. I think this is the first vaccine that has been used where mRNA is used and no virus or virus particles are part of it.  The technology and innovation behind these vaccines are amazing to me.
No, I don't think they are the "mark of the beast", as some claim.  No, they don't contain micro chips, as others claim.  No, they do not change our DNA.

No.

I don't take the flu shot either.

I prefer to let my immune system take care of me at this point in my life.  Also at this point in my life, if I die...Well, fine.

I'm a teacher.  If they force me...I may consider a different profession.  Especially with the way education is going anyways.

Nope! Never! I don't take the other vaccines and won't start with this one. I'm in a classroom daily. I'll take my chances with getting it, I live with a few essential workers that have been to hot spots. We are all still alive and still not sick. Sure people are sick, yes it hits others worse than others, but heck so does the flu or any other illness. The death rate for this is low, and according to the cdc numbers from death rates from last year, it hadn't increased.

The day I'm told I have to have one to have my job I will quit. It is my choice. I tolerate the mask but that is it, but I don't wear it once I leave work either.

And yes I have steps in motion for another career for if and when I leave my classroom.

The biggest thing for me is how fast it was developed. I don't think there was enough time for adequate testing. There is no way to know what type of side effects there will be.

I understand why older people and high risk people would want to get it. I'm 33 and healthy. I'll take my chances, while it's my decision.

My parents are 64 & 65. Neither of them are planning to get it, my dad is in great health my mom, not so much. I'm on the fence about her getting it.

My sister is an RN as of now she isn't required to get it at her hospital, but I bet she does sooner than later. As of now she isn't volunteering to get it

I'm torn.  I don't get a flu shot because I rarely ever get the flu.  That said I don't get colds very often either but when I do they almost always turn in to a wicked case of bronchitis that I have a hard time getting rid of.  That gives me a bit of concern about what covid would do to my body since my lungs react that badly to a cold virus.

The reason I'm concerned about getting the vaccine is that I've been told that an allergy to penicillin is a contraindication and could cause a reaction to the vaccine.  It's something I feel needs to be discussed with my Dr. before I decide.  But I'd love to hear Bear's opinion on it if he's willing to offer it.

If you have a history of anaphylaxis to any medication, then you shouldn't get the vaccine.  Also, if you have a history of severe, immediate reactions besides anaphylaxis that occur within minutes of receiving any medication you shouldn't get the vaccine.  By that, I mean severe hives (urticaria) or angioedena (swelling of face, lips, tongue, etc..) within minutes of taking a medication or getting a vaccine.  Also if you happen to be allergic to polyethylene glycol you shouldn't receive it. Anaphylaxis is immediate, life threatening swelling that compromises the airway.  That's what epi pens are used for.  If you've had an anaphylactic reaction you know it.  There's nothing specific about penicillin allergy that is a contraindication, unless you've had an anaphylactic reaction.

Most penicillin allergies are things like rashes that come on slowly after taking penicillin.  Some so called "allergies" aren't really allergies.  They are things like upset stomach, vomiting, or diarrhea.  A lot of people were told that they developed a rash after receiving penicillin as an infant or toddler.  A lot of those were not really allergies, but there's no way of knowing for sure.

Does that help?

Got my first shot a couple of hours ago.  The only thing bad about it was standing in line waiting for my turn and the amount of time on the computer finding when/where vaccine would be available and booking the slot.  They have given enough shots with very few reactions to convince me that immediate risks are minimal.  As far as possible long term effects, not all that concerned because I am old so I figure I myself an not all that long term.  I know the risks of covid and I choose to mitigate to every extent possible.

Thanks Bear, that does help.  I don't know that I would call my reaction severe but I was I child and I was tramatized by it .    It was an immediate reaction and there was facial swelling and hives.  so many hives.   I've also had immediate and weird reactions to other antibiotic shots over the years and reactions to oral medications that are a bit outside the norm.   The only vaccine I've had as an adult was tetanus and the only reaction to that was feeling like someone smacked me in the arm with a baseball bat the next day.   I will chat with my Dr.  and if I decide to get the vaccine maybe do it in her office with medical professionals present instead of in the drive through line that is the "norm" here.

I appreciate your information, it is very helpful.

I don't think there's a conspiracy. Probably not anyway. But this is cutting edge never before used technology and it was rushed through its trials. I don't trust that there isn't going to be many unforseen issues, long term.

I feel this technology could create a vaccine for cancer and other really bad diseases. It is remarkable and holds a TON of promise for the future.  But it should take years, not months, to get it to the general population. That's where my issue is.

I plan on not taking it. I already had covid and tho it wasn't fun, it didn't kill me either.

Hoping this is a valid reason, it's all I've got.

This was from the first week per CDC.

No clue what it is at now. But the rate of something happening is/was higher than dying from Covid.

Actually, Bear can you look at the chart I posted and clue me in?

What exactly does Pregnancies at time of vaccination mean?  Is it the lady was pregnant or does it mean the vaccine caused instantaneous labor?
