If you are or have ever been a hackamore person, you will be able to use one! The shanks are 7" to 8", I believe! I had mine shortened to 6", because I have no problem stopping one! The nose band is plastic wrapped, and should be adjusted to each specific horse however that particular horse likes it-- lower than you might think--will work better! Some one who is VERY light handed will be able to use this hack the best. I, on the other hand will always have to work on being lighthanded and not wanting to help them too much, maybe cause I'm a man or maybe cause I train so many, it's a work in progress and always will be! Usually they run from $59 to $65. They are not my fave by any means but I had a mare that was a lethal motor scooter in between 'em, and didn't like me to do any thing more than bump her to set her, and chunk it back to her! That's what I've found to be true w me using this hackamore. Hope it helps. ??
