I just had an arena built. I chose how much sand to add, and I think it's way too much. My footing is WAY TOO DEEP. We had to pay (a lot) for the sand, so I'm trying to think of ways to fix this without costing more money.

I can have my husband move a few inches of footing from the middle to the edges of the arena? I thought about just making a pile somewhere, but we get a ton of water when it rains and I don't want to wash away a lot of sand.

I really don't know anything so I've come to you for ideas!!

Wet it and pack it or mix some clay in. Usually 80/20 sand to clay works

Do you need a round pen? Can you move some of the sand to another area to make a hot walker or round pen area?

I have a round pen and hot Walker at the front of the arena that are mostly sand. We just extended the arena by 10' in length (it's 150' across) so hopefully that helps!!!!!

it will definately compact.....more than you think............  Also in the winter depending how yours drains I make my arena high in the middle so the rain drains off and I can ride pretty much all winter...  We also have a big roller and roll it and seal it before it rains if its a big dumper.........Do you have any way to seal it??  Also just push it to a corner....some of it will blow away too........

It's compacted a little, but still too deep for my liking. We just bought a roller today, so I hope that works! Thank you!!
