Hi,  We went to watch the slack last night at the Buffalo, TX pro rodeo.  A girl on a really nice looking sorrel horse, one of the last few to run, was running to the first barrel when her horse just set to turn and suddenly popped up and veered left and stopped.  He was unable to put any weight on his left front and the girl was obviously devastated.  He was able to walk out of the arena but still unable to put weight on that leg.  I felt so bad for her since I experienced the same thing many years ago at a rodeo, and my horse was permanently injured.  I think she was from Texas but I didn't catch her name.  I'm not on facebook and I wondered if anyone knew about this or heard if the horse was ok.  I was saying prayers for her and her horse that it was something fixable.  BTW:  The ground was awesome and they drug after every 5, no one had a problem.

I read that horse broke a splint bone and they expect him to recover. She said the ground was great. It was just a freak accident.

We had a youngster with a broken splint bone.  She was kicked and it was very painful but she fully recovered.  Just took a while.

Here is an update - hopefully she doesn't mind me sharing:

My beautiful big red monster’s career is officially over.
The ultrasound this morning was not what we had hoped for. They are doing everything they can to make him comfortable, and God willing, he will live a long happy life in his pasture with Barley for the rest of his days.
This horse owes me nothing. He opened doors for me that I never thought I’d get to walk through. He brought wonderful people into my life, and everyone that meets him falls in love with him. I owe everything to him. He has taken care of me for the last 7 years, he took care of us last night, now it’s my turn to give him the life he gave me.
Thank you Perks, for everything.
We could still use the prayers so keep them coming. He’s not out of the woods yet.

I hate to post this update... my friends Savanah Bryant helped the love of her life cross the rainbow bridge today. He had extensive soft tissue damage and was going to require major surgery of rods and plate and screws to hopefully get him comfortable enough to retire in his pasture. She decide it was just best to let him go run in Heaven till they meat again. His name was Perkzilla!!

Oh no - that is a sad update!  I know she is grieving, but I'm thankful for a horse owner that seems to care so much about her animals. Blessings of peace and comfort and future successes for her!

Thank you for the prayers for me and my guy. It was just a freak accident. He just took a bad step setting up for his turn and ruptured all the ligaments in his ankle and popped both splint bones. We were set to do surgery on him to fuse the ankle and retire him but he got a bad infection that never went away. We put him to rest on October 5.

I'm so sorry, I was there watching the slack when it happened, very freaky since he looked perfect coming into the turn.  You were in my prayers for a better outcome.  He looked like a big, gorgeous, awesome horse!
