Today is
Okay so I have a horse who is turning 20 this year and who has been hinting at some discomfort. Teeth look good, feet done regularly, and vet found no issues during his lameness exam. So now I am at saddle fit. This horse rides off great bareback, but becomes extremely moody in my Martha josey ultimate cash saddle. (Regular tree) sooo what does everyone recommend as far as saddles go? I'll add some pics of said problem pony and saddle
That's a nice saddle.
It's really hard to tell from pictures. Is he showing any cinchiness? When the saddle is on him, put your hand under it all over and try to feel if there is even pressure--not too tight. Is there room above his withers? When you stand back and look, is the saddle bridging anywhere or sticking up anywhere? Have you used this saddle on him in the past? How does the pad look?
I like my Bob Marshall treeless saddle because it fits every horse but it does tend to slip on some horses. I had to buy a different girth (Lami-Cell, roper with a neoprene-like underside) and a different pad (Reinsman--thinner, also with a neoprene-like underside.) for my new pony. I wanted to use my Kelly Kaminski on him because it looked so good but it didn't fit him!
You need to have pictures of your horse saddled up with the saddle and pictures of the saddle with out the pad sitting on your horse..
But why are you showing two different saddles? The picture showing the gullet is not the Martha Josey thats shown in the first picture.
