| My mare is fat, happy and dappled at day 349. She gets about 20 lbs of quality alfalfa hay, 2 lbs beet pulp shreds, 2 lbs carbcare performance and 1 lb renew gold, broken into two feedings per day. She was on grass until about 30 days ago when she was put up to foal, but my grass is nothing to write home about. |

Location: Texas | Does she have a baby on her? If so, more feed. I feed Bluebonnet Mare and Foal, and plenty of alfalfa. I also like Nutrena Mare and Foal. |

| She's currrently on Triple Crown Complete. she was looking good then had to go to vet for about 4 days and completely stressed down there. Maybe I will check the growth out and see what the difference is between the growth and complete. |

I would look into Bluebonnet. I put my horses on it & it is amazing. |

| More forage. How did all these horses brood mare or not ever survive without all these bagged processed feeds? Anyone ever see a molasses plant out in the pasture or range ? How about wheat mids, by products, etc? Horses used to live longer and sounder than they do now. Pretty amazing. |

| Flitastic, I couldn't agree more. My grandpa grew up in a generation that still used work horses. Those horses worked from sunup to sundown and all they got was hay and maybe a little oats, if they were lucky. No one was there to give them their electrolytes, or blanket them while they are in the barn. in my humble opinion, the average horse that goes to an amateur rodeo on the weekend does not need electrolytes because it is hot outside if they are not being used. ?? this is coming from the gal who talks to an equine nutritionist from purina, and who consults her vet regarding work after a layoff though... so make of that what you can. I guess I am what my dad would call a "crazy horse lady". That said, I'm on the road a lot during the summer, so I do everything I can to take care of my horses. (I'm a teacher, and I get summers off so this enables me to do 6-8 week rodeo runs.) No need to get y'alls panties in a bunch, I am just expressing my opinion. If you dont agree with me, please dont attack me. Either way, you do you. |
