Alright y'all...another question here lol. Soooo on my last post about bits, things have seemed to change a little bit. She is rating much better. Haven't had an issue going by any barrels besides maybe the first sometimes slightly but I know it's not gonna be perfect every single time. She is looking for the barrels much better now, however I'm not sure if it was the indoor arena or her confidence wasn't there but it seems like she might be shutting down on me a little bit and not sure why...I think I need to trust her to do her thing and not grab on to her as much anymore. Maybe she is bracing for the turn if I've been in her face too much? How do I help her gain some confidence back? She seems to be a free runner that is shutting down on me a little bit...I'm pretty sure I've read an article about that on here before but I can't find it. The dirt was pretty deep so maybe that could've played a part idk...but how could I help her feel more confident and secure?
Confidence takes time and alot of attention from you. I feel like not pressuring the clock when seasoning, but rather just going for those smooth clean runs, builds the most confidence.
Do you think like patting her neck and talking to her before going in? And then afterwords hopping off and loosening her cinch and doing the same thing would help? I always pat them and tell them good job, but maybe I need to more? My friends say she's like a dog lol...maybe she needs more attention? My gelding doesn't care too much as long as he gets some hay after.
