I'll preface this with saying i am NOT looking to drug my horse or do anything illegal or unhealthy. My horse's health is 100% my main priority. With that said, is there any supplement or paste (absoluty not anything injectible) to help give a horse a little more energy pre run? My mare is healthy, fed well, chiropracted regularly, etc. Her turns are nice and she works hard for me, but she is SO push style and is a little too laid back. I'm wondering if there is anything I can give her just to give her a little boost. I looked at MVP products but didn't see anything.

Just my experience -- I tried about every supplement under the sun to get Zan to fire harder. Some had an effect, but never one that made him run his easy, consistent pattern PLUS speed. If it gave him speed he lost the easy pattern and the runs were kinda a mess. He didn't like the feeling 'up' of the supplements that actually worked.

How long have you been running her?

About 17 months. She's 5.5 now. I have had her since she was 2 and started her myself when she was almost 4.

Shes still really young, I think as they get older they get faster over time, I think she has not found that other gear yet, I say just give her time she'll get faster. I think at that age I want them to stay calm so they wont use themselves up so fast, I envy a nice leavel headed horse thats laid back.

Maybe just take her out and Breeze her some let her know shes got legs that she can use, theres a Breezing exercise for a Barrel horse on Youtube by hannahkaufman1 that shows how she breezes a horse inside the arena.. Check it out..

Breezing her for 50 yds or so will free her up a little. Also, take her to a really big outdoor pen and set the barrels pretty far off fence. Don't let her turn the barrel. Make her go to fence. This will make her furious, but will also free her up.

You missed the MVP Breathe-O2 Paste, then :) I use it on my gelding for extra fire. I joke that he is a 1D horse all the way to the 1st barrel and then fizzles out to be a 3D horse on the way home. The Breathe paste helps keep him firing through his entire run.

I have used the breathe o2 a few times and liked it but i felt like it was hit and miss when it actually felt like she ran harder. I actually just ordered another 4 tubes of it this morning to try again lol
