Location: Kansas | I'm hoping all the expert breeders can give some insight. Had a mare at the vet for almost 2 months for AI. Cycles were horrific with both mares, hard to get them to cycle. When one of my mares was cycling she was AI'd with frozen semen. I've never used frozen semen, and she is maiden. 2 weeks later, went back for a pregnancy check, and scan showed nothing. Flash forward to today, mare has gained quite a bit of weight with no changes in feed or hay. Blanket doesnt fit any longer and shes a smaller petite mare normally.
could it be possible that a pregnancy was missed on a scan? Maybe im just overthinking things, going to schedule a pregnancy check next month when my schedule dies down a bit |

Believe it or not, it does make a big difference. On the other side though, your mare could be fat. I know you are feeding her good lol. |

Location: OH | Yes, we also check at 16-18 days for a couple reasons. 14 days---twins can be missed and that can create problems, plus if checked by 18 if mare is not bred we will know where she is at for her next cycle. 14 days is awfully tight. |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | She does look in foal to me and YES I have heard of a missed pregnancy during a vet check.. With the way that belly looks and hanging, there could be a foal a cooking. When was she bred? |

Location: NE Pa-Gods Country | it is possible the mare double ovulated and caught on the second one.... this is what happened with our mare a year ago. i would def have her preg checked again... 14 days might have been a day or two early. |

Location: Texas | When I check client mares I like to check between days 14-16. It's pretty dang hard to miss a 14 day vesicle with good technique and a good machine, but it does happen. If you wait until day 18 to check and they have twins, it gets tricky to pinch. Not impossible, but more difficult..and if you do your first pregnancy check at 30 days and there's twins, it is even more difficult. On my personal mares that I can check on my own dime, I start checking at day 12 because I can't help but to look, and then again at day 14-16. And then again for heart beats at day 25-30. To answer the OP's question- it would not hurt to get another ultrasound to see if a pregnancy was missed. It does happen from time to time. |

I know! I was disappointed. She still looks like she is pregnant, so she must be super fat |
