| I've read on here people saying they are late to mature. My mare is going to be 5 in May. Lazy quiet and heavy mover. She is starting to wake up more but did anyone have hancock horses that were lazy when they were younger then one day wake up lol |

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | What are the rest of the papers? Hancock is so far back these days, it's hard to blame anything on him. Those bloodlines are abundant in WY ranch country, but even on them, Hancock is far off the papers. |

Location: SW MO | Although your horse has several crosses to Joe Hancock it's pretty watered down by the time you get to her. She is only carrying 6.2% Joe Hancock. I always say though it takes each horse in their pedigree to make them up & some horses do carry very strong genetic traits that carry through generations. Your horse also has several crosses to Eddie. Eddie is 3/4 throughbred and had a lot of speed. Haythorn ranches in NE used him many many years in their program to put toughness & speed in their horses. She also has many running horses Dash For Cash, Texas Dancer, Easy Jet, Raise Your Glass just to name a few. Why she is being lazy I don't know but she has the foundation for speed if you can get her to use it. Just a side note on Joe Hancock when he was young they matched raced him & he stood open to the world. No one could beat him until they started running his own sons against him. He produced several running horse with a lot of speed. His son Red Man produced John Red AA Race horse & Blue Valentine who won barrel racing at CFD's. Also yes Hancock & Driftwood horses are both slow to mature. |

| Thank you crossspur. She is lazy honestly it's probably because of me lazy by nature but me not riding just right. I have a trainer friend helping me with that just taking awhile. I know she has it I just have to get it out of her and work on me. |

My husband has broke a lot of horses & he always says it's easier to speed a horse up than slow one down. Slow and easy with a young horse is a good thing. Your doing good |

| I am in the same boat. Super lazy colt. He is five now and has no desire to run. Argh! I love his attitude though. He is super calm and sweet but I want to at least get into the 4D! How do you add speed? This is the first colt I have trained myself. I don't want to send him away. I really want to learn how to accomplish this. I also DO NOT want to blow him up or sour him on the barrels. I am afraid I will do this by not knowing how to encourage him to move out. Please share your program for adding speed. Thank you!!! Oh, his breeding. He's an own son of Firewater Ta Fame out of an own daughter of Bully Bullion. Mare was a competitive barrel horse herself. Also, he is still intact. Thanks again for help. |

I also have a daughter of Firewater Ta Fame. No amount of money could buy her. Abbie " LR Drift N Ta Fame " is out of a Driftwood mare. She did a couple of futurities 3 years ago. She won one but I removed her from the trainers who had her and brought her home. She is 8 this year and is now really showing her stuff in the barrel pen. I am very excited to start running her this year. She is in georgia with some great friends of mine who are wonderful trainers. I was crushed when FWTF died. He was an amazing stallion & I am blessed to have one of his daughters. |

| She's a beauty! I also have an own daughter or Firewater Ta Fame as well as the colt I asked about. She is amazing. She is 14 now and has won so much for me. Honestly, I am the only thing holding her back but I also wouldn't part with her for the world. Wishing you many many years of joy with your FWTF mare. |

This. I have a mare that's by a son of Dash Ta Fame and out of a mare we know can scoot. She was SOO lazy until I went to ride with a friend and she pointed out the problem is me. The mare had my number and was lazy because of it. Turns out, she's got plenty of gears AND cattiness to boot. |

This is great to hear! Some of our ranch geldings are so lazy when you are just riding across they will stub their toe and almost fall down repeatedly. When there is job to though they will fly across the field like they are floating on air. |

Location: LouLouVille, OK | All of mine trace back to Joe Hancock, every one of them has been late to mature. But one thing is for sure, when their light comes on, you will know it. So take your time, put the training in there correctly and you will never have to retrain them. I love their work ethic, their personalities and the confirmation is amazing. I will reach back 8 generations to give him the credit for all of them |

Dayum! Bouffie got a death wish. Just curious, Why does Bouffie have a death wish? Let's loosen up a little, southtx. You know as well as I do that Hancock has a reputation for producing buckers. This set of papers looks like a for sale ad in The Onion -Cowboy Issue. Far right set has two top and one bottom. That's pretty straight breeding.

Location: LouLouVille, OK | He covered mares that bucked, JH himself never bucked And he himself was undefeated on the track. All Of mine trace back to JH and I count every last ounce of it to good. They all have outstanding work ethic and love to do their jobs. As far as the horse not wanting to run fast, speed will come. When their light comes on and they know what they are doing, hang on. They tell you when they got it. Till then, just roll with smooth patterns |
