Location: taking the road less traveled... | Good Morning!! I am hoping to get some insight/opinions on possible TMJ issues...I will try to keep this as short as possible. I have a gelding that is an absolute angel to be around, we have been through a lot together and finally feel like we are getting on the right track, well I was still having some issues with him not letting me touch his ears and just being sensitive around the ears/poll area. I took him to a chiropractor and he said that his TMJ was really sore, suggested taking him to a vet to get his TMJ injected. I took him to my vet and he said that his left side was worse than his right so he injected the left side and said to give him off a few days. This was last Wednesday and I left him alone until Monday just to be safe. Fast forward to Monday and he is WAY WORSE than he has ever been about getting near his ears and poll area. It is worse now than it was before he injected the left side of the TMJ...he wont even remotely let you get close to his ears and poll area. This is the horse that has the best ground manners and loves loves people, but he is not having any part of me or my neighbor that messes with him as much as I do touch anywhere near his ears or poll area. Also wanted to add that he has recently had his teeth done, been chiropracted, and is taken care of very well. I really thought this was our last hurdle to get over before his performance really started to turn around. I have spent a good deal of money trying to get him feeling his best and my funds are running low....I truly believe this horse has serious potential, but not if I can't even get him comfortable and without pain. I was watching him last night and he is trying to open his mouth all the way to yawn and he stops before he even gets it halfway open. If anyone has any experience with TMJ injections, please give me some insight on post injections. Thanks so much for any input/advice on post TMJ injection! Appreciate it so much ! |
