I recently purchased a horse from a sale with no info. She has a brand and I would appreciate anybody who may recognize it. I've called and emailed animal health commission and department of agriculture and no one seems to have any clues to where to direct me. I know it's a long shot. Just curious about where she comes from. Brand is on left shoulder  

What state, what sale, what county? You can got to your county Clerks office and see if this brand is registered/on file in your county or the county that the sale was in. 

I would join and post in the "horse brands" group on Facebook.  They're pretty great at tracking brands down for people.

There's a guy around here that travels to barrel races with a full alphabet and signs/shapes. You can choose a "brand" and freeze brand your horse right there. Pretty sure those don't get registered anywhere. 

Yep, that's the problem.  Most states don't require you to register a brand, and the "brand states" do - and they have to be approved too I believe.  And each brand state has it's own registry, meaning there could be the same looking brand, registered in 2 different states. (or more)
