I have a horse that just DRAGS his feet when I'm leading him... I try and pull him up to me but he just takes his time and I feel like I'm always pulling on him.... also he BACKS up when I stop him or try to saddle him... it's really weird! He is 6yrs (just got him a month ago)and I am just now breaking him out.... any ideas would be appreciated!!!!!!

I have a mare that walks fast. She will pass me while we are walking, I started stopping her and making her back up when she gets past me. Whats funny is now when she walks past me and I stop she will back up without me saying anything. I think she naturally walks faster than I do though LOL! Your horse sounds like it is more my speed!

If you have a long lunge whip you can hold it in your left hand and have it so it is towards his butt. When you walk him don't look at him. Keep looking forward and tap the whip on his butt gently. its hard to describe without pictures. It will train him to keep his head by your side where it should be.

use a stud chain for awhile, you can put it across the bottom of his chin, the top, and if he doesn't respond to that put it across the top of his gums. If you put it across the top of his gums be very careful, no jerking, he will respond to that really fast.

My gelding is five and lazy as all get out - if I let him be. I got sick of him dragging his feet everywhere so I started to get after him with the end of the lead rope or a lunge whip in my left hand. If he'd get behind and start pulling on me I'd give him a good smack in the butt - but obviously be prepared for him to react! He's muuuuch better and more responsive now.
