I hope it's ok to ask / talk about this:
I can not ride right now , my horses have always been where I found my comfort, peace, let go of all my stress. In short being up there has always been my rock and "safe" place.
I'm 18 weeks along tomorrow. At 6 weeks I was diagnosed with a subsonic hematoma. That bleed out. At my last ultrasound baby was pefrect but the placenta was not 100% attached in that spot. I have my 20 week coming soon :-D so excited.
They baby is fine and I'm told all is pefrect and not to worry, but I've been forbeden from riding my horses (and I would not dream of sneaking a ride and risking my baby).
But im having issues with stress and letting it go, I guess without riding I do not know how! That sounds so silly :-\ but I'm really struggling with it.
I brushed them the other day, and it did help, but it wasn't the same.
How do you relax, let go, de stress, I'm kinda lost and could use some advice. |

Location: Beggs, OK | I am one that refuses to ride when I'm pregnant. It's more than I could bear if something happened to my babies.
I spend time with mine working on manes and tails and making sure they look their best. I take lots of walks when weather and daylight permit. I've also been reading books again. When I was so busy riding everyday I never had the time to read like I would like to. |

| I'm not really bothered by the fact I can't ride, I just don't know how to cope with stress without riding,Iits just kinda piling up and weighing me down.
Maybe a good up lifting book would be a great idea. Thank you |

Location: Idahome | I rode until about 16 weeks and only light exercise to keep the horse in shape. It also turned winter so that made it easier for me to get off, but I got a gym membership. When the light changes and it gets dark at 5, I hate going straight home. I went to the gym and walked on the treadmill or rode the bike for a while. This helped with the stress and feeling miserable because I didn't do anything all day (I sit at a computer all day for work). Talk to you Dr. about what is ok and not ok. I have been seeing the chiro a lot more since I had my daughter because my core muscles were so bad from being pregnant it throws my body off ( I get bad lower back spasms). He said that he tells patients to work on easy core exercises when preggo to help with this.
ETA: I know there are yoga videos out there for preggos. Regular yoga is tough so I can imagine how it would be with a belly

Location: Kansas | I quit riding around 20 weeks it was starting to get uncomfortable. It is easeir than I thought but I am not a cold weather person at all, if it were spring/summer I am sure I would be going crazy not being able to ride. I try to walk on the treadmill or go outside and do stuff around the house, but there seems to be nothing that reduces stress like going out for a ride. I am due in march so I am hoping that I can be ready to ride once it warms back up. |

Location: Eatonville, wa | I am at 13 weeks, and stopped riding last week. No issues, my doc just asked me to and considering my gelding is 4yrs old and ready to really start running barrels, I felt it was best. I easily am stressed, for me just going out, grooming, cleaning pens, talking with my gelding, and hugging him helps. I have even taken him on walks around the neighborhood like i do my dogs :)
Just keep active and give them a hug |

Maybe use this time to watch some Barrel Racing DVD's (I recommend Dena Kickpatrick), read some informative barrel racing books and read up on BHN.... are there any horsey clinics you can go and just watch or Horsey festivals? then you'd still be learning and once you had the baby you'd get to go out and try everything you learned?? or maybe it would drive you even more crazy thinking about it lol!!!1 |

| My sister had the same condition in her last pregnancy and ended up with doctor ordered "restrictions." Not full bed rest, but very little activity (everyone is different though, this may not be your case). Spend the time out grooming/groundwork, etc while you're still feeling able - you may be glad you did! Then maybe a horse-related project or barrel racing scrapbook? I like the idea of going to clinics or horse expos!
Also, my nephew was born full term, and he's perfect! Good luck with your baby! |

I was going to suggest this. Maybe get an exercise bike or treadmill? It'll lift your spirits plus the better shape your in the easier the delivery. |

Location: Missouri | I spent the last half of my pregnancy with my eyes glued to barrelhorseworld.com lol that was more because I missed actually riding. Can't say it helped with stress. As far as that goes, maybe try reading to get your mind off things for a while; take naps; do crafts; get a massage and spa days; I don't know haha |

I think walking is a good de-stress activity. I did that too - had a neighbor I walked with every day. |

Make sure your getting some sunlight!
DEFINITELY agree with sunlight.
Also, check if your insurance covers chiropractic/massage/acupuncture. I get what is called a 'wet noodle treatment' where I get an acupuncture treatment followed by an hour massage. My medical insurance picks it up. You'd pay outofpocket for your horse to have it right? |

I do get sunlight :-) I walk the feed lot every day checking for sick calves and get medicine rowdy if needed :-)I have stayed as active as my Dr. has aloud :-) I'm really not a person that enjoys working out, I do it because it needs done to stay fit, but I don't like it one bit lol, and a gym is a bit impracticle, would be over an hour of driving round trip. Ii would have to check that its ok to do a new program as well, but i thought of taking a prenatle yoga class, might look into it more. I think I will dust off my sewing machine and craft table, and bore you all with projects I've done.Thank you all so much, even feels better to just talk about it and acknowledge that I am struggling with it, makes it less heavy, so thank you very much. |

That is what I am doing. My poor husband is on a diet and well, so far this week I have made peanut butter stuffed chocolate cupcakes, chocolate chip cookies, monkey bread, and home made bread. I haven't tasted one of them but the bread lol. I just like baking. My kid is thrilled about it though.
I read a lot. The kindle fire and free books are awesome. Even though I could spend $200 easily to buy all the sequels to the "free" books I have read lol. That is how they suck you in!
The thing that keeps me the busiest is hustling my guppies to everyone and their dog. I had the bright idea of buying 2 females with the 2 males I bought at the beginning of the year. The woman assured me that the other fish would eat the babies. Actually she "warned" me, and I said that is fine I don't want guppy babies. She lied! I am officially a guppy breeder and send home at least 15 babies in a solo cup with everyone that comes over. My little sister is getting a fish tank stocked with guppies for Christmas lol. Then my son called while he was at his grandma's the other night begging for some of her Fancy tailed guppies. I told him just a few and only males, well grandma "doesn't know how to count" she said and sent me about 10 males and 10 females... some of them pregnant. My husband says to just flush the females... but I feel so bad for them and can't flush them unless they are dead. So support a guppy dealer near you. |

Location: North Dakota | I have the exact same thing you do! Riding is the only way I relax so I have been a grouch lately. What makes me even more aggrevated is I just purchased a nice mare at the end of the summer. I found out I was pregnant a month later!! I have considered listing her but can't talk myself into it. I know she will stand in the pasture for nearly a year before I get to ride again! Her sire is a NFR steer wrestling horse so it is hard for me to let go of her. I have considered breeding her but to me it just ruins a mare to breed them, she just turned 6. Anyway best of luck with your pregnancy. I guess we can just groom or horses to death each day LOL! She will live the easy life until the end if 2014! |

| I have been assured that when Im no longer able to ride I will still be able to "get my horse time in" in the roping pen while running the chute... in the arena with no heat... here in Canada... in the winter.... I know you're probably jealous, so come on down and I'll let you have a turn!
In all seriousness tho, I totally recommend lots of ground work (I've been working on my gelding's "tricks"/yoga), lots of grooming (nothing shines like a horse that gets brushed hard every day- AND its good exercise), and if you're still stressed come have your turn at the ropin chute. bahaha

Location: 100 miles from Nowhere, AR | I got really depressed during my first pregnancy. I pulled a groin muscle at 15 weeks running barrels, and it pained me the whole rest of the time. Plus the way he laid gave me nerve pain, and heartburn...and it was winter. Ugh. I was able to ride longer with my second, and didn't have pain so I walked and did yoga right up to the end. I walked (waddled) nearly a mile the night before she was born. Exercise made all the difference in the world. Especially the yoga. The poses I did weren't strenuous, but they were challenging and relaxing at the same time. The breathing poses were super good for stress relief. |
