I like dressing, the casseroles and the scrumptious array of desserts!  The turkey, not so much.

Mine is family followed close by the prime rib. It is one of the two times a year everyone tries to come up (the other being Christmas). We all have a huge feast and make a big prime rib with all the fixings ( most of my family hates turkey). My dad even though he is in a wheel chair cooks a mean roast, and mom and I work on the sides. I love the fact that my parents have been divorced for 20 years but still get together for these special occasions (neither remarried) even though my brother and I are 25 and 27.

I am not a huge fan of Thanksgiving foods but I do LOVE french fried onions.
I had to make a quick trip back to the store today because I ate the entire container of onions I got for my casserole last night. This time I bought two containers , one for my dish and one to eat myself .
The clerk asked me if I had forgotten them yesterday , so I blamed the disappearance of my onions on my dogs.

I don't have a recipe on hand. This is the closest one I could find to how we make it. (We have been doing it for so long we just kind of throw it together, sometimes it isn't the exact same ingredients as the year before lol.) It is a big hit in our family. My mom makes 2 of the turkey pans (this silver tin ones that are like 2 foot long) full of broccoli and rice casserole and there is very little left over. I always volunteer for those left overs.

http://www.kraftrecipes.com/recipes/broccoli-rice-casserole-51402.aspx

My mom has done hers with Cheez whiz or velveeta, it just depends on what she feels like that year. There isn't much of a difference.
My MIL always does hers with velveeta.

Depending on who makes it, there may or may not be bread crumbs. I prefer it without them actually.

Basically what we do is cook the rice, mix it in with the cooked broccoli and cream of mushroom and add cheese until you think there is enough to make it good and cheesy lol. Salt, pepper and cook in oven until it is all melted together. We don't get Fancy haha.
