| How long do magnets usual last? I have a pair of magnetic bell boots on my navicular gelding that is turned out full time with them on. Do they go bad? Need replaced? I use the classic equine brand. MagNTX.
Thanks in advance!

| I've been doing a lot of research on magnets lately and from what I've seen, if they use N52 neodymium magnets (the strongest, most permanent and most widely used of the rare-earth magnets, they also have N35, N42, N45, etc. but these are weaker than the N52) they will only lose an average of 1% of their strength over 10 years. So the bell boots will wear out long before th magnets do. With that being said, I did brief looking to see if I could find which type the MagNTX use for sure but it doesn't say.
On a side note, I noticed the MagNTX boots use bipolar therapy. Magnets have a north and south pole, the north pole is said to be negative and the south pole is said to be positive. Bipolar therapy, as the name suggests, means it uses both north and south poles. It's been suggested that the south pole (positive) has bad side effects; this is an excerpt I copied from a website.
"More rarely used, south pole magnetic energy increases a variety of physiological effects including: bacteria and plant growth wakefulness, inflammation, pain, infection, and changes in animal behavior."
Whereas in unipolar therapy (where only the north pole [negative] is facing the body) there seems to be only good side effects.
Here's the entire article if you want to read the whole thing: http://www.magneticare.net/research7.html
Sorry for the book! I find this type of thing very interesting.

| I just know my gelding hates hock boots, i tried on him at the world, he almost jumped out of his stall, i thank bob hess for helping to,hold him and my girls to hold his front leg after i puck it up to snatch off the first hock, boot and to, over to,the other side and once that last boot dropped he was quiet again. Never have seem a reaction like that. I have a cheap magnetic blanket he doesnot mind. Maybe someone could tell me why he did that never have seem a horse do that. He is a quiet type horse and does not mind any type of leg wraps but the minute imput those, wraps on he went crazy never seen him do,that if i,had been bymyself he would have hurt either him or me it was very bad he was in a stall at perry.

The one time I tried the 3 in 1's on my gelding's hocks he hated it and tried kicking it off. It had nothing to do with the fact that it was magnets it's just something they aren't used to having straps pulled tight around the hock area. I use my 3 in 1's more as ankle & leg and also for the knee area.

Some horses feel "trapped" as CYA said Some feel the increased blood flow That is why I suggest wrapping the leg with a standing wrap them put your 3n1 on. It all depends on the horse and their nature. Always feel free to contact us if you have questions.

Location: Tex. Panhandle | I had my mare injected in Aug. The 3-1 hock boots took her a few times to get used to but she loves them now. She will nearly fall alseep at the trailer with them on and rides off great after being stalled or trailered for extended periods thanks to her hock boots. A blanket is next on my list
