| Back a month ago, I posted how someone dropped off not one but TWO pregnant dogs at my house. They both had 6 puppies each.
Now they are 6 weeks old and it's time to find them homes. Out of 12 puppies and 2 adult dogs, I only have 1 puppy that I have a home for and my gut is telling me they will back out of it. They are all pretty puppies..sweet and smart. I socialize them with other dogs and cats, try and work with them, etc. I've spent a lot of time with them because I want them to be a good family dog. Some of them are heeler/border collie mixes. They would make awesome farm dogs.
Question is..what am I doing wrong? I post on craigslist, the local sale website, flyers hung, etc. I've been told to ask for a $20 rehoming fee and I'm doing that. I see other people doing the same thing on pups that aren't nearly as cute and they get rid of their puppies quickly. I'm getting frustrated. If they don't find homes soon, I'm going to be forced to send them to the shelter and my heart just breaks thinking about that.

Location: California | What area are you located in? Have you considered contacting a rescue (either herding breed or all breed) and explaining the undertaking you took on and see if they could assist you? Even if they can't take them on physically they may already have a network established where they can get the word out to more people than you are able to through advertisements. Have you put your flyers up at the feed stores or local Home Depot ?

I'm located in NC.
Yes, I have flyers up everywhere. Posts on tons of websites. Pictures everywhere. The only thing I have a problem with is taking them to a big event, just because I am a cosmetologist and I work weekends I make my most money on Saturdays so I really can't take off work right now. |

| Go to the Walmart parking lot with them all and put a sign up. Seems like a redneck thing to do but I've seen people set up and 2 hours later they are all gone and they were asking over $100 for their puppies! |

I have seen a lot of this as well. Just double check your state laws. Here it is illegal to seperate puppies before 8 weeks of age from their parents . A lady was out here selling underage pomeranians in the Target parking lot and they arrested her . |

| No offense to anyone who has ever done that, but I won't do that. Not in this area.
I've never heard of the "8 week" law in NC but I will look into it. Either way I have to find the dogs a home ASAP.. I have 19 dogs at my house right now. NOT COOL.

| Take them to a horse show.
With Christmas around the corner BAM-they would be gone!!!!!!!!!
I have had two litters (no more for me) they are a lot of work, especially when they start to eat in addition to getting momma's milk, it doesn't matter where you put them they are never happy unless they are loose running around getting into something!!!!!
There are some vets who say that six weeks is okay, some don't.
The only thing with taking them to a horse show is I would recommend they have their first shots and at six weeks they are ready for those.

I think people find those a little safer than Craigslist and the people are all local.
Good luck. That is awesome of you to take those dogs in. |

Yep, I have put them on the swap pages. I have put them everywhere.. No stone has been left unturned as far as all that goes.
We don't really have barrel races out here on Sundays so that's out. They have been put on the dog pound forum and all that as well.
I will post pictures hopefully later tonight. We got an ice storm and our power is out for the time being. |

I was looking for 3 weeks for a puppy and every single one I called on, even if it was $200-$300 was gone within hours of being posted. If I hadn't gotten one last week I would of taken one of yours. I will share on my Facebook page as well. They are cuties! |

Yes! This is a great idea, also post that they are free of $20. I know I avoid people selling puppies because I think they'll ask $500+ and my kids will fall in love. A $20 impulse is a lot easier to sell to the husband when you get home. Also, if there are any cattle / horse sales or pet swaps be there with them. Good luck |

He's a handful too! I'm being picky about him.. It's obvious he is a heeler mix and he is definitely going to need a home that knows how to deal with a herding dog. He's a typical heeler pup! |

I know you are not doing it for the money, but sometimes human nature can be backwards....... They think if the pups are $20.00 then they are worthless.... |

They are adorable and hopefully some great people will open their homes to them... be careful of the craigslist stuff... scares me what's out there that preys on picking up free puppies.... :( but maybe some people will see them here as well... change your thread title to free puppies on here after what you have.... and see who you can attract!
AND GOD BLESS YOU FOR HELPING THEM.... HANG IN THERE!

That was the law when I lived in NH as well. Now I live in Oklahoma and it seems pretty "standard" to let them go at 6 weeks. Pups barely have bladder and bowel control at that age and need the extra couple weeks with their mother.
That being said, you may want to post on all the Facebook sale pages as well. There are hundreds of them. |

Our board buddy took home the little black male with the cross on his chest. I don't remember her board name but maybe she will get on here and post. I think my mom is pretty heartbroken.. She was attached to that one and we weren't expecting him to be one of the first to go. Both of my favorites left today. |

I agree, when young pups come into our shelter... they are GONE within a few days... could you get them SOMEWHERE there is a demand? I KNOW there is demand out there especially for these kind of dogs! You have to find them homes when they are YOUNG that is the key... hopefully to people who will agree to spay/neuter them... if they came to our shelter they'd be spayed/neutered, microchipped etc before even leaving and ALL would find homes....

Just an idea, I know it might be scary but I think you should get it out there and let people know that doing that is WRONG! |
