Location: Fort Collins, CO | I've never scoped or treated my mare--but i suspect she's very ulcer prone.
Usually her feed program consists of Cellarator X and aloe vera juice, but ADM Loomix just came out with a new product to promote gastrointestinal health, Inside Tract. She's been on it for 2 weeks now (2 more to go) and then i'm going to decide between that and aloe vera juice.
There is a lot to say about Formula 707 products--i'd go with them or ADM Loomix! |

| GastroPLUS.
Triple Crown came out with AlfaLox that should help - haven't used it.
You can even find some compounding companies to make powdered omnepronzale - however you spell it. |

I don't know why, but lately lots of our horses will quit eating when we start giving omeprazole. I am about ready to quit using it, we have used the compounded version for about 15 years and the last 3-4 it just hasn't worked as well. Not to mention I have developed a sensitivity to it, makes me wonder what it is doing to my horses insides. |

Location: Sunny So Cal | THE GastroPlus. This is the only product I have found out that works the best and my horses don't relapse once they come off of it. Found it to be very efficient and effective. Had happy horses faster than ever and not expensive which was nice. |

Location: Kansas | I cannot say enough good things about Progressive Nutrition's Soothing Pink pellets!! Enough so, that I have bugged them about being a dealer (still waiting on a reply *cough, cough) so that I can help others out with this amazing stuff. My mare turned from being one of the b!tchy things that runs from you in the pasture, to meeting me at the gate every morning because she knew she was getting the stuff. I've tried products from other companies (I won't say what. I still use other products from those companies, though), with little to no difference. Again, SOOTHING PINK!! lol |

| personally had used ulcerguard on mine -didn't see anything after spending $1000.00 tried a few things it seemed like I was always batteling the ulcer issue finally about 6-8 months later I started using animal element detox within 6 weeks my horse looked awesome felt and acted better than he ever has and I have always used aloe vera over my adm feed which I think both are great but I can tell you that the detox helped so many issues that my horse had (feet, stomach, nerves, weight, joints) it was amazing the difference it made for him) later I learned about draw being used for ulcers you can look it up on Bristow vet hospitals sight and I do use it a couple times a week with my detox and I have not had any more problems! Thank God! |

Location: Texas | I've had good results with Seabuck Complete. Turned my grouchy, cinchy, alley refusing gelding into a sweet, running, turning machine! And it is great for more than just the tummy, it's all natural, etc. Every time I need to reorder I reconsider if I really need it. I just remind myself what he was like when he wasn't on it and I quickly submit my reorder! |

Location: Kansas | It depends on your budget....me I am all about cheap and what works. I feed Forco daily and it makes the digestive tract work properly and is a source of nutrients. That is the start and it is not expensive and there are so many other benefits to using it. They other two things that are really good at just keeping them super healthy for stomach issues is Apple Cider Vinegar. Only a swig daily. It is awesome at keeping bad bacteria out of the gut. And the other really super cheap sure fire way is give them a bucket of water with Arm and Hammer Baking Soda.(1 tbsp) and make sure you give them the choice to drink that or regular water without. It will keep the PH in the gut just right and no ulcers. I haven't had ulcer issues to speak of and I feed a cob mix and have my whole life. Another one if you really have a bad ulcer horse and they get nervous at the gate...I would syringe about 20 cc of Aloe Vera Juice in the mouth before a run. |

| Go to www.prognutrition.com and click on Soothing Pink supplements. They have a couple different Soothing Pink products with Soothing Pink Xtra Strength being the most concentrated so you only feed a couple ounces daily. I buy it online so it is shipped to the house. |

Location: Illinois | U-Gard is what keep my horse under control with ulcers. Its been a long fight and at his worst point when he was scoped the vet said it was the worst case he had ever seen. 90% of his stomach was covered in ulcers and he had ulcers all the way up into his larynx as well. After a 28 day round of Gastrogard and being on U-Gard daily he stays ulcer free. His feed, Total Equine, is also highly recommended for ulcer prone horses as well. |

| I use omeprazole to treat then I feed FORCO all the time and Ulsershield while hauling/competing or other times of stress. If you would like a code for ulsershield discount PM me. I like that ulsershield is a liquid because it sticks to the grain good and my horses eat it and the FORCO really well, actually they will eat FORCO all by itself. |

Location: Louisiana | I was feeding U-Gard powder to T-Bo. The only reason I stopped is because I swapped over to TE and the powder was sifting through the pellets and making a nasty mess in his feed bucket. Total Equine is supposed to help with ulcers anyway, so I figured I'd wait and see if he has any symptoms before ordering the pellets. But the U-Gard is cheap, he ate it fine in his old feed, and it worked. |

| So, how long and how often do you give the Gastro Guard or Ulcer Guard? I've heard a 1-2 days, a week, and a month...?!? I wouldn't think that one syringe (30ml) for 1-2 days would work...

~Ulser Shield Ulser Shield begins to neutralize acid on contact. A mucosal protector, Magnesium and Calcium form a barrier over the mucosal lining. Calcium Carbonate reduces the acidity of the stomach and helps promote proper digestion and nutrient absorption. Polydimenthylsiloxane, an anti-gas, helps reduce trapped air in mucous, which may be associated with equine ulsers. If your horse displays poor appetite, mild to severe colic, poor condition, attitude changes and poor training performance, you may be seeing the early signs of an ulcer. Add Ulser Shield to your horses daily diet and early treatment may prevent the use of Gastro Guard. Ulser Shield is a marvelous maintenance for horses following a course of Gastro Guard. INGREDIENTS: Preservatives Magnesium Oxide Calcium Carbonate Polydimethylsiloxane New Size! Available by the quart ($20.00), half gallon ($35.00) or gallon $60.00 |

Location: Valley City,ND | Please check into where the chemicals are sourced from. omeprazole is a very unstable raw chemical. Must be kept basic with a pH greater than 8 and in a stable base (usually buffer) to keep usable/viable plus needs to be protected from light during compounding and after. Make sure the compounder is certified and accountable, licensed to do business in your state. There was a great article in barrel horse news about ulcers and how to treat and who to trust for the drug omeprazole from compounders. Ask to see the independent lab results on the finished product for potency and stability. Don't give your horse drugs without knowing where they came from and IF they are proven to be what is on the label. IF you want a proven licensed product of compounded omeprazole (results from Eagle Analytical Labs, Houston TX) give Equine Pharmacy Solutions a call at toll free 855-882-7906 ask for Ron, PharmD, certified compounding pharmacist or call me at 701-840-8028 Teri Berg-Crooks, RPh, PCCA Certified Compounding Pharmacist. the website: www.EquineRxSolutions.com |

Location: Dearing, GA | I use UlcerCure OTC (Thanks DJG!) but I also have used Apple Cider Vinegar. Just pour it on their feed. It may smell yucky but I've never had a horse not eat it. Plus it's the cheapest option out there. $1.85 for a big jug at Kroger. |

| My horse was full of ulcers... never had her scoped because the cost of scoping was half the cost of the treatment! we did the gastroguard and for a year after i gave her the ulcergard when hauling... but i found the best treatment for my mare... is pasture... big bales of hay.... and a mini to keep her company when traveling... in the last year ihaven't given her meds and she is happy as a lark. and i'm happing i'm not paying any more vet bills! 3
ETA i also did the SmartPak's and she did great on it also when kept up in a run in/out but the pasture really has been the best thing for her!

Location: MN | what helped my mare the most was putting her on a diet without soy ...no soybean product in her grain. i currently feed a pelleted feed flax based. made a complete differance in her. if i haul i use succeed paste and a 1/4 tube of ulcergaurd. ive feed lots of the recommended supplements with no differance when shes hauled. so i dont feed any daily supplements just changed the grain . shes doing great now i do feed a alf/grass mix
