Ok well I have had a super rough week(and its only tuesday!) A falling out at work has led to my needing to to move my horse away from his current location at work to a close family friends house. We are expecting rain HOPEFULLY this week. The problem is that this new pen is nice, maybe 20x35ft and about 6-6.5 ft tall, it has NO shelter. I cannot build a permanent cover but would there be a way to make a temporary cover for the winter. He will probably only be there a few months.

When I moved from Montana to Oregon it was during winter and it always rained, andi was in the same situation, nice pen but no shelter so I bought one of those little plastic car ports and it did the trick!-

it didn't have sides so I just made one from tarps, it was super redneck but my horses were warm and dry

Thats a great idea! My idea was to make some sort of pvc/tarp or light metal cover and fasten it to both sides of the fence but then I thought that it might not have enough support.

Make sure to secure it with at least T-posts.  the little pins they have for the legs are not enough to hold it down during a decent wind.  once you have it set put in some hog fuel to lift them up out of hte wet.

More important than a roof for your horse is a windbreak. Healthy horses can deal with cold, wet weather, but that cold wind is harder on them than snow and ice.
