This has Little scabs all over his back, shoulders, neck, and butt
Mostly his back on one side...
Now at my Barn a couple years ago a bunch of horses got these
All over after some new cows came in and a bunch more bugs came
Along with them....
So put some vetricyn or mtg and they Were gone in most a month...
Sooooo any way....
Ideas? |

Location: Running barrels or watching nascar | I'm also dealing with this. Found out that MTG even though it stinks works. Vet also put her on a powdery supplement. I didn't think I'd run across it where I live but we've been so damp all year. |

When it wasnt raining at all ... So I didnt think it was that ....

| If you look and if the scab comes off with small hair patches, it is probably ticks. Very tiny ticks, It has sort of a yellowish crust. We had them about this time of year and could never figure it out until I picked one of the scabs and noticed the tick,,,hard to see. You can sprinkle rose dust on the horse and it will disappear. Good luck. |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | Sounds like they may have layed down in some fire ants. We have them really bad around here. And I think they are wrost during the summer. |

alos if fire ants get under there it can cause this as well.. just suggestions. |

Location: South Central Florida | Sounds like Rain Rot to me. A blanket can make it worse. As I understand it, what we call rain rot is a fungus, so a blanket would just help it grow even faster. MTG works but depending on where you are and what time of year, the oil can cause sunburn.
I have used Underwoods, and Vetricin and Beverly's Equine products. I have also used diluted bleach and diluted listerine. It doesn't seem to sting or bother the horses, and it kills it quick, but the Underwoods caused the hair to grow back (or it seemed like it) faster. |

Location: NC | Put some yellow Listerine on it. If it starts clearing up, it's rain rot. And yes, rain rot can happen even under a blanket.
If it's an allergic reaction, nothing will help but time. |
