Hungarian Midget Woman
  
Location: Midwest | Friends and family of Amy Hawker, a barrel racer from IL, are requesting prayers for her and her family. She was critically injured in a barrel racing accident at Gordyville in Gifford, IL last night. I have seen a lot of people requesting prayers on FB and thought I would share with you all here. She suffered severe head trauma and has swelling of the brain. She's in the ICU.
I know who she is, but I don't know her personally. I am sure some of you on here know her and would like to pray for her. If they could share updates, that would be great. And I think there is a prayers list here somewhere, perhaps she could be added to it. Please see RLB's post for an update.
ETA: Update as of 12/3. Amy was taken off of life support and has passed on. Please pray for her little girl, family, and friends. She was an organ donor and will hopefully save some lives through this tragedy.

Location: Midwest | Small update I have seen from her friend on FB. She is in the ICU at Carle in Champaign, IL
The swelling isn't going down like they are hoping for, but it has reduced a little.
I feel so bad, as I know we all take these risks riding. I just hate to see someone hurt.
ETA: She is still in extremely critical condition.

The way I understand it, she was on the west side of the alley & on a new/different horse. It slipped a little, ended up on the concrete - that portion is open from dirt to concrete - & she went flying headfirst into the stalls/concrete floor. Horse may or may not have also landed on her. She has been unconscious ever since & the swelling on her brain has subsided slightly but is still very much a problem.
Amy is a single mother with a five-year-old daughter, Suzanne. She really does need everything she can get at this point.

My heart is breaking for them right now and especially her little girl. I can't imagine what she is going through right now. They need all the positive prayers and thoughts anyone can spare. I don't know of any more updates then have already been posted. Keep refreshing my FB page waiting. |

Location: Midwest Farmer's Daughter: Central Illinois | I went up to the hospital & Amy's prognosis isn't a good one. She has significant swelling in all areas of her brain, so there is not any way to alleviate it physically at this point. Her body isn't responding to medication like they had hoped & there aren't any other options right now except to wait. She is on life support & they have her medically paralyzed. They have brought her our of the paralysis twice to see how she reacts & I believe are going to try again this afternoon. She has taken a few breaths on her own but no reactions otherwise. She also has liver failure due to her horse stepping on her when he got up.
She will need a miracle. Even if she makes it through, God help her, the trauma her body has sustained is extreme & she will not likely be the same person, if she is a functioning adult.

I pray that her little girl has someone to take care of her and that she's able to live a good life despite being dealt this awful hand. |
